breakfast of champs wreck chords

Breakfast of Champs is a sweet new Jamaica Plains-based haven for bedroom players to release their tunes on 7″ and cassette tape; think Mexican Summer with less weed, Woodsist with more-fi and the kickass of Mirror Universe with the collectivity and bond of Underwater Peoples. Just wanted to give a heads up, expect to catch a Truman Peyote split 7″ with Turtle Ambulance in the near future as well as a cassette from Psychedelic Family. Other exciting news is that FMLY alumni Philip Seymour Hoffman and EASYBOY (among others) will also be dropping cassettes via Champs either late this year or early next – add the ChampSpace to keep up to date! This is so exciting, can’t wait to see what these dudes do with 2010.

Truman Peyote – New Wife, New Life
Turtle Ambulance – Bueno Pues (download plates)
EASYBOY – Chest Swimmers
Philip Seymour Hoffman – Spring Break 2011 (download fire island, 25MB)

independence day in new york

This 4th of July weekend’s Captured Tracks/Woodsist festival boasts an awesome lineup of bands we dig – Psychedelic Horseshit, Blank Dogs, the Mayfair Set, Gary War, Dum Dum Girls, Real Estate, Ganglians, Tyvek, Vivian Girls, and Thee Oh Sees to name a few – and comes highly recommended by FMLY. Two day passes are $25 dollars, full lineup, location, and price of each day after the jump. After the date on 4th of July is an afterparty at the Market Hotel with ONADDES (listed as ‘tentative’), The Fresh & Onlys, Pink Reason and Babies (featuring folks from Woods, Vivian Girls, Bossy).

Another 4th of July option is catching a free show in Battery Park with Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band and Jenny Lewis. A Haim sister has been on tour with Jenny so show your support! Haim will also play FMLY Beach Dazed.

Lit Fuse Bike Shop has a 1pm show with Japanther, Ninjasonik, Ghost Mall and Muhammadali. Weren’t the Death Set on this as well?

Anyways, whatevs you do remember to be safe, be smart, be respectful, and have a great fucking time.

Japanther – The Dirge
The Mayfair Set – Already Warm
Psychedelic Horseshit – New Wave Hippies
Ninjasonik – Negative Thinking (About Tight Pants)

The Mayfair Set is the collaboration of LA’s Dum Dum Girls and NY’s Blank Dogs; both plurals, but actually singular efforts. Pictured above is their forthcoming 6-song 12″ due out on Woodsist which is absolutely killin’ it this year. Hit up their MySpace to hear some tracks to look forward to.

The Mayfair Set also has upcoming releases due out on Slumberland and Zoo Music. And don’t forget to pick up that dope 2-track 7″ single that’s still available on Captured Tracks.
