Gainesville’s Total Bummer Fest is in two weeks with oh so many of our favorite bands including Teeth Mountain, Adventure, Truman Peyote, Vacation Dad, Phillip Oskar Augustine, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Emily Reo, Levek, Many Mansions, Blissed Out, Prince Rama, Michael Parallax, and the list goes on and on. The Spirit Cat bros just made a comp that you can download below, and don’t forget to preorder your tickets right here!
FMLY’s Philip Seymour Hoffman and Truman Peyote play at Spin Cycle on Sunday the 20th with Rabbit Punch, Attached Hands, TV CARNAGE, and Panther God. And for residents of Lexington (Kentucky), make sure to hit up Al’s Bar this Sunday (3/14) to peep Idiot Glee, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Trailblazer, and Henry Crawford before they hit up SXSW.
Our BFFz in Total Slacker play the Cake Shop tomorrow to raise funds for the trek down to southby, so if you’re in New Yawk then make your way over to catch ‘em with Big Troubles, Darlings, Sundelles, and more! I slept on a couch recently in the home of a Big Troubles member, so go thank him for me. More info here.
Thanks for tuning in to Public Education. We on indie1031.com every Sunday from 6-8 pm PST. If you were listening, then you were a witness to the Facebook marriage of Danny and myself. The first day of marriage is good and the beatings are sparse.

Hey New York, there’s so much going on tonight (as usual) but if you want to go where the party is head to St James Church around 8. Real Estate and Tony Castles are playing with FMLY FRNDz The Beets, Beach Fossils, and Total Slacker! We’re so proud of ‘em. St James is at 32 James St between Henry and Madison, music kicks off at 8pm. See you there. And if you haven’t already, download Total Slacker’s initial demos right here. And here are directions for tonight!
I’m “following” Philip Seymour Hoffman on tour, tonight “we’ll” be at Shea Stadium (20 Meadow St, Brooklyn) with some of “our” favorite Brooklyn (and Jersey) warriors, Beach Fossils, Total Slacker, Frat Dad, and Earth Eater! Remember when we interviewed Total Slacker a lil’ while back? Download their demo free right here, courtesy of the band and fmly rcrds.
It’s time to announce something that we’re all very excited about, the FMLY Dinner Tour! As of January 5 we’re hitting the road with our sleeping bags, skateboards, bikes, tents and FMLY FRNDS to spread the good word on this lil’ cult that we’re all a part of and we hope that you can join us along the way. Here are the dates and please get in contact if you can help out in any way whether it be letting us crash on your floor, take a shower, food recommendations, setting up a house show, making a flyer, spreading the word, etc… all dates after the jump.
According to Child Bite at Death By Audio this weekend, “Total Slacker are as cute as buttons,” blending together not only the most bud-heavy of beach-pop jams but the badass appeal of just being in a band and having the best time with each other. Whether they’re tearing apart the stage at Shea Stadium or hot-boxing their spray painted van, Emily, Tucker and Ross are just all-around awesome folk that want to show you how much fun it is to do what you love. After a night at the Cake Shop, we headed back to my apartment with some pals to take part in recreational activities as well as record Total Slacker’s first interview. Video accompaniment coming in the near future. Also of note and something I’ll elaborate more on later, FMLY RCRDS is hosting Total Slacker’s initial demos for free download while cassette duties will be handled by our homies over at Mirror Universe Tapes. More on that in the interview…
Total Slacker: [Emily:] Well, Ross and I are from Santa Fe and Tucker is from Salt Lake City. I came here a few years ago for school and then I stopped going to school…to play in Total Slacker! [Ross:] Aw, is that why? I thought you were just takin’ a break. [Emily:] Ha, yeah, an extended break. You know.
Hey, so tonight is a rare occasion where we have an event on both coasts – the best coast and the right coast, can you guess which is which?
In Los Angeles is the FMLY ride with the homies Professor Calculus, Insects vs Robots (next time) and Restavrant. You can read more about that awesome party of a day ‘n’ night right here. In Brooklyn, FMLY’s Philip Seymour Hoffman will be playing a set of new tunes off the forthcoming The Lighthouse Itself Is The Rocket (Breakfast of Champs) with our good pals Total Slacker who we caught last night at the Cake Shop. If you’re in the city, head over to the Charleston in Williamsburg tonight at 8:30. We know nothing about the place but regardless, good times are to be had with good frnds! See you somewhere.
Total Slacker are a band out of Santa Fe and Salt Lake City by way of Brooklyn sportin’ the classy Tucker Rountree on guitar, the sassy Emily Oppenheimer on bass and the mondo rad Condor on drums…I’m not too swell at rhymes these days, forgive me Ross. Turning up the reverb until you can’t tell if the banter between songs is still the last tune, the ’slacks are writing uber catchy melodies and the occasional true story about video store rental bros, pandas and basically being way chill. After only a handful of shows under their belts I’m proud to say that our pals have a string of shows coming up with Talk Normal, US Girls, Frat Dad and Pterodactyl – hopefully Tucker will be rocking that beauty of a Noah’s Ark sweater pictured above. If you have some time tonight in New York, Total Slacker are playing the Cake Shop at 8:30 followed by beers and other recreational activities at my place. Be there or be just as content as you were before you heard about this. More tunes coming way soon.
