While last night’s show was sweaty, drunk and balls to the wall, floor or against the person in front of you, the talk of the town has been what happened afterwards at Daddy’s between Nathan Williams and Jared from the Black Lips…but I’ll get to that in a bit.

this guy won't be there
Hey New Yorkers, wanted to post a tip on where you should be tomorrow. Todd P and his interns have coordinated “an artistic musical event stripped of every element that could be threatening or dangerous.” The day of bbq and acoustic sets by the likes of Mika Miko (playing tonight at Market Hotel), Ducktails, Dinowalrus, Ninjasonik, Ponytail, Frankie Rose, the Coathangers, Real Estate and plenty of other bands that we dig goes down at noon in Fort Tilden Beach way out where I’ve never been. Full roster of artists, set times, and directions after the jump as well as a statement from Todd P. For more info and more show listings, hit up Todd P NYC.
Ponytail – Beg Waves (live Daytrotter Sesh)
Ninjasonik – Daylight (Matt & Kim RMX)
Dinowalrus – Electric Car, Gas Guitar
Ducktails – Beach Point Pleasant
The Coathangers – Nestle In My Boobies
Javelin – Africadabra
the Strange Boys – This Girls Taught Me A Dance
Mika Miko – I Got A Lot (New New New)
Rev McFly (of Ninjasonik) – Extinguish The Baby
TODD P GOES TO AUSTIN is a cultural snap-shot of America’s underground, do-it-yourself music scene featuring unforgettable live performances from Matt and Kim, Dan Deacon, Mika Miko,
The DeathSet and many more.As record labels die, independents thrive. In the wake of Napster, MySpace and Facebook there is a generation of artists creating and performing music on their own terms. With the help of legendary DIY rock promoter Todd P, Brooklyn has become ground zero for these exciting young musicians.
Using never-before-seen footage, including material shot by the bands themselves, TODD P GOES TO AUSTIN exposes what life is like surviving and touring at the underground level. Interviews with Todd about the necessity of independent music and creativity connect the bands as they tour down to Austin, TX to appear in the DIY music scene’s answer to the SXSW Music Festival.
It’s impossible to spend time in New York and not be affected by Todd P, the man [and his interns] weaves culture into flawless seams of mosh, ecstasy, dance, spectacle and not only does it all on the cheap but all ages too! The first week I moved to NY in ‘07 I didn’t know who Todd P was, but I was familiar with the Brooklyn music scene and inadvertently made my way into quite a number of his events. When I wrote for CMJ, Todd was a panelist for a discussion on ’selling out’ and listening to him speak made a me a little angry, but I soon ‘got it’ and even quote some of his valid points in discussion. The man is a local icon and a future legend, so although I have much for-and-against Todd P I just need to give him his deserving big ups, props, respect and admiration from FMLY. Todd, you keep the dollars in my wallet, you introduce me to the most interesting people and I can’t even imagine my life in NY without Death By Audio, The Silent Barn and the ever-expanding list.
This being put out there, a movie has been made to honor his preservation of DIY ethic and hopefully bring in some fresh new faces to these intimate experiences. Trailer above.

So it’s a Thursday night and you want to get your pre-weekend party started right, right? Well luckily it’s the 25th anniversary of a very special film, Wild Style, and to celebrate Todd P is throwing one viscous party with director Charlie Ahearn and his brother Joe at the Danbro Brewery Warehouse. Features from the film will be there in the flesh as well as modern day torch bearers. Curated by the Ahearn’s expect to see Spank Rock, Busy Bee, Grand Master Caz, Grand Wizard Theodore, Double Trouble, the Rub djs plus surprise guests. For more information please visit Danbro here or Todd P here.

No Age played an overpriced show at Santo’s Party House last night so to make up for it Randy and Dean will play a reasonably priced Todd P show tonight at The Market Hotel. I’ll be there and your friends will be there so why don’t you come along? Oh, and I guess I forgot to mention that Titus Andronicus, Soft Circle and Sisters are playing…this tea just keeps getting sweeter.
