it’s your birthday!

Happy Birthday to our buddy Dorian of the Teenagers. He turns 12 today! Remember when you saw that dude who writes a lot on the FMLY blog having a steamy makeout sesh in that Teenagers vid for “Love No” or when he held the first interview on American soil with the Teenz at the Hiro Ballroom in NY? Yeah, that kid sucks. Oh the memories, our teens are growing up…so here’s a super rad cover.

The Teenagers – Starlett Johansson (Connan and The Mockasins cover)

Teenage Womanizer

Dorian from The Teenagers just sent this over – it’s a Teenagers remix of Britney’s “Womanizer.” Other notable Teenagers remixes are “Mer du Japon” (Air) and “Fallen Snow” (Au Revoir Simone).

Teenagers "Feeling Better"

Hey guys, I’ve got a special treat for you today. Dorian Dumont of The Teenagers just emailed me the official video of their track “Feeling Better.” Basically a montage of fans dancing, playing music and singing to The Teenz, there’s enough children in this vid to keep a child molester’s dick hard for months. Check it out above!

Cool Kids Get Stupid

Well apparently when I wasn’t looking The Cool Kids signed to XL; home of Radiohead, Ratatat, The Teenagers, etc… Anyways, their brand spankin’ new mixtape That’s Stupid dropped earlier TODAY for FREE. Get on it, seriously! The tape is hosted by none other than L.A.’s Mondo Fresco from Power 106. Don’t forget to catch Mikey and Chuck this summer at Rock the Bells in a city near you!

Scarlett Johansson "Falling Down"

The highly anticipated Tom Waits covers album by the Teenagers’ adored Scarlett Johansson has begun to surface. Johansson premiered, via Spinner, “Falling Down” featuring David Bowie (and Kermit the Frog). Click here to listen.

Red Band Weezer Album

["This is what Vampire Weekend is going to look like in 15 years." -P4k]

So as I countdown the days until one of my favorite bands in the world release their new CD, it is becoming more and more difficult to follow the hype around it. As you’ve heard, Weezer will release their long awaited (still no contest to Portishead) and now confirmed Red Album (Interscope) on June 17, just the week before my birthday. The photo above is the first press shot of Weezer taken in 2008.

Recap of the amazing music that has come or is to come in 2008:
My Bloody Valentine, The Teenagers, Vampire Weekend, The Dodos, Radiohead, Kate Nash, Animal Collective EP, Weezer, Portishead, Saul Williams, Throw Me The Statue, etc… What are more of your favorites?

Amazing music to come in 2009:
Daft Punk.

Homecoming Video

No, not the classic “Homecoming” by the Teenagers, but rather Kanye West feat Chris Martin of Coldplay. I’m diggin’ the angles.

New Teenagers Music

So we have another blogosphere premiere from The Teenagers. It is an outstanding remix of “Love No” by Tepr who is no doubt going to hit it huge in ‘08. You can find Tepr within the sets of the best of the best DJs and once you hear what has happened to “Love No,” you’ll understand why. Tepr takes The Teenagers to a brand new level.

So I won’t say where this song came from, but it fell out of the sky and right into my hard drive just moments ago. This is the official Delorean remix of The Teenagers’ first American single, “Love No,” WORLD PREMIERING right here on FMLY!

You can peep their recently released video for “Love No” featuring me right here and watch an interview that I had with The Teens right here. The “Love No” single featuring this remix will be released March 10.

New Teenagers Video

I posted this on IHEARTCOMIX today

———-

The Carolyn London directed video for The Teenagers’ first American single, “Love No,” was released via The Teens website this week. Filmed in a Brooklyn studio, the video features ten young faces – myself included – on roller skates, making out, eating whipped cream and just having a wholesome time. From an insider’s perspective, it was a great shoot but I think that my eating a pint of whipped cream out of someone else’s mouth should have totally made the cut. The “Love No” single will be released March 10 followed by the physical release of Reality Check (XL/Merok) on March 18. Until then you can watch an interview that iheartcomix previously had with The Teens while they were in New York.

Good Afternoon, New York

There’s a lot to cover in the news today so bear with my rush of excitement.

First, Happy 10th birthday week, “In The Aeroplane Over The Sea!” Everything that needs to and can be said about this album already has been, Neutral Milk Hotel will live on forever in our hearts, it’s 10.0 rating on Pitchfork and maybe even Coachella 2010? Fingers crossed.

Second, on the Ratatat site their “Remixes Vol. II” is available for free. Hopefully you already have the album, it really was one of the best hip-hop albums of ‘08. If it’s not already on your iTunes click the picture below to download it.

Third, the cease and desist order on AmpLive’s “In Rainbows” remixes has been dropped and the final verdict is that Amplive can release the his “Rainydayz Remixes” only if they are not distributed for profit. (Thanks Brooklyn Vegan)

Rainydayz Remixes Tracklist

Download it right here., it’s a really good listen…just like “In Rainbows!”

Finally, I interviewed Ninjasonik over the weekend for IHEARTCOMIX. We were really fucked up and this is what came out of it.

If you missed my interview with The Teenagers, you can check it out here.

Sorry for the overwhelming amount of information.

Team Robespierre

So I know that I’m a few days late and a couple dollars short of catching this on time, but I was trying to hold out until tonight. About four days ago my boys in Brooklyn, Team Robespierre, put out – correct me if I’m wrong – their first music video for their song “88th Precinct” off of their album Everything’s Perfect (Impose).  The video is directed by Allen Cordell and if you’re familiar with his work (Dan Deacon, Jimmy Joe Roche, Future Islands) then you know just how psychedelic and imaginative this man is. It’s 2:30am and I’ve just come back from a show with Dre Skull, Ninjasonik and Team Robespierre – if you know these three names then you can imagine the awesome energy that was pumping the entire night. The only way that I can possibly compare it to anything that I’ve experienced would be a 5 hour Matt and Kim show complete with the DIY mentality and run completely illegaly out of a hole in the wall in Williamsburg. I have cuts all over my body but could not be any more excited for how the night just went. I’d also like to give a shoutout to the Teenagers posters that are posted all around Williamsburg and the Monster energy drinks truck for being in the right place at the right time…outside of my dorm at 2am, thanks guys. You can purchase Team Robespierre’s album as of today and catch them at SXSW if it doesn’t conflict with the sick I<3COMIX events like the Heartsrevolution performances. The bottom line is that this was one of the best shows ever and I hope that I've mentioned enough bands in this post for everyone to think I'm cool like Cory Kennedy.
