We’ve really been missing the Go! Team ’round these parts, so it’s super great to hear that they’re keeping busy. It’s also really great to hear that this “busy” is remixing none other than Black Moth Super Rainbow! Kicking it back to pre-Proof of Youth jams sporting flutes, handclaps, and infectious melodies this remix (or reimagination) comes highly recommended for Black Moth and Go! Team fans. More remixes here and below. Don’t forget to peep our lengthy interview with BMSR right here.
Back in the days of Silent Alarm and playing Coachella for the first time Bloc Party was the shit. Kele’s voice matched with Matt’s drums, Russell’s smooth guitar progressions and Gordon’s bass hooks led my ears into a state of euphoria while waiting around for the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, and trying to drum along to “Helicopter” proved to be impossible but worth every effort. Unfortunately with the release of A Weekend In The City I lost that care for the band and really haven’t listened to them much since. After perusing Vincent Moon’s Take Away Shows this afternoon my eye caught the Bloc Party sesh and after watching it once my heart has dropped. Maybe it’s that everyone involved is fairly drunk, but Kele and Russell play an acoustic sidewalk version of “This Modern Love” that seems incredibly more genuine than it did on their 2005 release. Props to Bloc Party for doing their thing, I may not have stayed with you guys after Silent Alarm but I couldn’t be happier for you that a good portion of the world has.
I can’t even fathom how heart-wrenching this must have been to witness.
The Chicago-Sun Times did the reading world a favor and leaked some of the confirmed acts for Lollapalooza which so far looks above par from other festivals this year. If you haven’t heard, Grizzly Bear has been confirmed to open for Radiohead on the second leg of their North American tour. This didn’t come as a surprise because Thom Yorke has publicly acknowledged his fondness for the Brooklyn group. BOTH groups will appear at Lollapalooza this year, along with a strong lineup consisting of Wilco, Rage Against The Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Kanye, Girl Talk, Battles, The Go! Team, Broken Social Scene, Mates of State, The Cool Kids, and Kid Sister. The entire lineup will be revealed by festival promoters on Monday.
