Phantogram – Running From The Cops

Ungh, I totally have a crush on Phantogram. But entirely unrelated, there’s a really sweet show at the Cake Shop tonight in New York with Human Resources, Blissed Out, Say No! To Architecture, Luke Perry, and our own Philip Seymour Hoffman who is flying into LA this weekend for some relentless FMLY activity. However, if you don’t feel like coming into the city, the homies Fiasco are playing tonight at Shea Stadium in Brooklyn. I apologize for the lack of new music updates lately, but I’m personally all too content with jamming out to my year end list, and well…you can see how many events we’re putting together right now. We’re all just really sleepy.

how long should i be here

Got a new Beach Fossils tune for ya off one of the upcoming 7″’s that Dustin has planned for the new year to be followed by the way anticipated LP! It’s the deadly Woodsist/Captured Tracks combo that’s sure to hit all the 2010 year end lists on a blog near you. Taking a much different vibe than the hazed memories of “Vacation” and “Daydream”, “Time” invites a look back at shared experiences whether they wish to be remembered or not. The girl that rejected your hand, the job that was lost, that awesome show at the end of summer, the upcoming flight or drive back home for the holidays. We each follow the same paths, progress down the same linearity and share so many similar feelings, yet we refuse to follow the route of becoming another brick in the wall. But where Dustin picks up is that we’re young, and we have and will develop new extensions of time that have not been perceived in the past. Until this is realized, I just gotta say that I’m on team Beach Fossils all the way.

all our friends are in bands

I’m “following” Philip Seymour Hoffman on tour, tonight “we’ll” be at Shea Stadium (20 Meadow St, Brooklyn) with some of “our” favorite Brooklyn (and Jersey) warriors, Beach Fossils, Total Slacker, Frat Dad, and Earth Eater! Remember when we interviewed Total Slacker a lil’ while back? Download their demo free right here, courtesy of the band and fmly rcrds.

going full slacker

According to Child Bite at Death By Audio this weekend, “Total Slacker are as cute as buttons,” blending together not only the most bud-heavy of beach-pop jams but the badass appeal of just being in a band and having the best time with each other. Whether they’re tearing apart the stage at Shea Stadium or hot-boxing their spray painted van, Emily, Tucker and Ross are just all-around awesome folk that want to show you how much fun it is to do what you love. After a night at the Cake Shop, we headed back to my apartment with some pals to take part in recreational activities as well as record Total Slacker’s first interview. Video accompaniment coming in the near future. Also of note and something I’ll elaborate more on later, FMLY RCRDS is hosting Total Slacker’s initial demos for free download while cassette duties will be handled by our homies over at Mirror Universe Tapes. More on that in the interview…

Total Slacker – These Condos Don’t Belong

FMLY: Hey slackers, so where are ya’ll from?

Total Slacker: [Emily:] Well, Ross and I are from Santa Fe and Tucker is from Salt Lake City. I came here a few years ago for school and then I stopped going to school…to play in Total Slacker! [Ross:] Aw, is that why? I thought you were just takin’ a break. [Emily:] Ha, yeah, an extended break. You know.

true men pay oh dee

With Light-Lightning out on Whitehaus Family Records and praise coming from P4k, My Old Kentucky Blog, Transparent, etc the buzz around Truman Peyote is getting pretty fucking exciting. While in Boston I caught FMLY’s Philip Seymour Hoffman playing a backyard show with Caleb’s other project Psychedelic Family and after returning to NY Eric emailed me his debut EASYBOY tape. Truman Peyote or not, I’m so stoked to see these dudes cause some wreckage in the next decade.

Heads up NY, Truman Peyote are playing their 100th show at Shea Stadium (moved from the Market Hotel) tomorrow night with Tayisha Busay, BLissed Out and more! See you there.
