So the inevitable day has finally happened – GeoCities is officially shutting its doors and going offline. This is the same site that was bought by Yahoo back in 1999 for a staggering $3.57 BILLION US dollars and at the time, was home to 1.1 million users. As a modern day comparison, Rupert Murdoch acquired MySpace in July 2005 for $580 million and it came with 120 million users.

Look at this fantastic time-line of its beginnings and its final end.

So today is (was) it, the last day of GeoCities existence (http://internetarchaeology.org/death.htm).

Id like to thank everyone who has helped archive this wonderful piece of history. Unfortunately, the party that was planned, which so many volunteered to participate in.. was canceled at the last minute by Market Hotel, the venue who was suppose to host it. The short notice left an insufficient amount time to find a new venue. Regardless, we made do, sharing some of our best GeoCities memories and links in AIM and Skype parties, and… a lot of David Duchovny kissing happened (http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Lair/8379/dd/kissdd.html).

Internet Archaeology will continue ever onwards; sifting through the GeoCities archive and exploring new/old sites.

In the meantime checkout the IA flash gallery at flash.internetarchaeology.org – which showcases a somewhat forgotten time within this medium. I find this stuff really illuminating and fun.

Also, if you haven’t already, please do see the guest galleries at http://www.internetarchaeology.org/aguestgalleries.htm
which include really great works by Tabor Robak, Krist Wood, Jacob Broms Engblom, Daniel Leyva and Nasdaq 5000.

FMLY PRSNTD: Forget The Plunger, We’re Leaving It Clogged!

Big ups to our ex-Dean & Franklin crew Mr. Cracktacular, Moody Majical and Stevie Weavie for allowing FMLY to PRSNT their eviction party. We brought the Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Manhattan masses DJ sets by Mr. Cracktacular, DJ Tanner aka Your Majesty, Ryder Ripps, the recently blogged about ECK$ and a stunning beat-set by our boy cloud.. The dance with grind, shake and pop, the smell was green, and the cops were absent – all in all it may have been on of the most epic parties I’ve ever been to…and I never even left the basement! Pictures after the jump.

ECK$ – Bitch I’m The Boss
Your Majesty – She Isn’t The Only Thing That’s Loud (circa early ‘07)
