fmly filled weekend

Saturday start your day right. Grab some instruments, frisbee, ice block, dog, lover and head down to Mary Hotchkiss Park in Santa Monica for a day for chillin, cool peeps, new friends and great music. It’s time for the return of Thank you, Come Again in LA.

The purpose of this event is to strip a concert experience to its birthday suit. We have a performer in their most vulnerable state, an audience, and communal activities for all! Nothing will be handled but good vibes. Remember that when you come to a fmly event, you represent fmly. To those of you who do show up with substances please keep them to yourself, away from the group, and don’t be the one that ruins the day for everyone.

We got postponed last weekend from the rain but weather is looking great so we are back with vengeance bringing the addition of The Entrance Band with us. Also joining us is Rumspringa, Insects vs. Robots, Kid Infinity, 60 Watt Kid and a ton of others.

FMLY RIDE postponed in la

So the FMLY RIDE in LA has been postponed till next weekend due to the rain but don’t fret! Next Saturday is going to be epic beyond belief. The Entrance Band will now be joining us as well as a few other surprises. This will be a chill, slow paced ride so if you have a cruiser, skateboard, roller blades, etc. don’t let that stop you from having F.U.N.

This month we are playing cowboys and indians so Eastsiders, put on your 10 gallon hat and finest boots; Westsiders, get your war paint on and the bows and arrows out of storage. There will be babyhead spoke cards as always. If you are a new rider, don’t be nervous, we’ll take it nice and slow. If you don’t have a bike, bring your skateboard, rollerblades, unicycle or whatever other self sustaining mode of transportation you have. Everyone is welcome!

The music:
Westside (meet at Cloverfield Park in Santa Monica)
: 60 Watt Kid
:: The Light Rays

Eastside(meet at the corner of Spring and Cesar Chavez Downtown)
: Neon Navajo
:: Las Cafeteras
::: Hiking

Our monthly bike ride is back March 6th, bigger, better and more F.U.N. than ever. This month we will be having two meet ups. If you live on the Eastside of LA, you can meet at the corner of Spring and Cesar Chavez Downtown and if you live on the Westside you can meet at Cloverfield Park in Santa Monica. Both rides will be seeing some awesome bands while exploring different sides of the city before meeting up in the middle for far too much fun.

We may not be in the same city but we are all riding together. I know some of you were in LA when Koalacaust played the FMLY RIDE so you know you are in for a treat.

ALL AGES // 8PM // OCT20 // *ROUND ROBIN

Whaaaat, I guess it has already been a year since we partied last CMJ with DD/MM/YYYY, Rumspringa, The Hood Internet, Ninjasonik and more of our homies in Brooklyn…but we’re back and ready to kick some ass. This time, we’re doing shit a bit differently and showing the Lower East Side what’s up. Don’t worry Bushwick, we’ll be in you like swine flu and killin’ it the rest of the week!

This year we’re doing things a little different and bringing Los Angeles to New York as well as sprinkling the night with some good pals from Baltimore, Boston by way of Toronto and of course, Brooklyn.

This is night one, our official CMJ Showcase.
Part two are guerrilla shows throughout the week to be announced sporadically.
Night three is the raddest fucking duplex party of the fall.

WE ALSO HAVE A LIMITED AMOUNT OF FMLY SHIRTS FOR SALE. GET IN TOUCH IF YOU WANT ONE.

We Never Sleep, We’re Not Weak Mixtape

Considering that many members of the FMLY are in college and we’re nearing finals, it’s important to create a playlist to keep you up during those all-nighters. I won’t divulge what is on my personal playlist coughfalloutboycough, but here are some excellent tunes to keep you up and atom for whatever it is you’re up studying for…not like it’s 2:00pm here or anything and I still haven’t passed out. Instead of going way of posting awesome sleep related tunes like Grouper, Bonobo or early Arcade Fire, this is more of an uptempo grouping of songs to pass the time until sunrise.

We Never Sleep, We’re Not Weak Mixtape

Matt & Kim – Don’t Slow Down
Flying Lotus – Sleepy Dinosaur
Height With Friends – Standing Up Asleep
The Joggers – Wicked Light Sleeper
Milk – The Battle of Sleeping Tonics
No Age – I Wanna Sleep
of Montreal – At Night Trees Aren’t Sleeping
Rafter – Sleazy Sleepy
Santo and Johnny – Sleepwalk
Simian Mobile Disco – Sleep Deprivation
Voxtrot – Fast Asleep
Snakes Say Hiss!!! – Turn Me On
Rumspringa – Minds Awake
Volcano, I’m Still Excited! – Two Exclamation Points

SXSW Photo Recap

SXSW was a blast. The crowd was enthusiastic, the food was savory (thank you Pita Pit), and discovering new music in a live setting is definitely preferred over a computer screen. I’d just like to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who took the time to come out, we never expected to reach capacity so quickly! Also, an equal in size thank you goes out to Sneak Attack Media, Tierra Productions, UV Vodka and Hi-Lo for sponsoring the event as well as Honey Claws, Ninjasonik, TheDeathSet, The Hood Internet, DD/MM/YYYY, Fol Chen, Rumspringa, Cerebral Ballzy, The Hungry Villagers, Madi Diaz, and Reverse X Rays for playing. Big apologies to those of you who came out for Youth Group on Thursday, hopefully you were able to catch them at the Australian music showcase.

Cage Video Shoot Today in Downtown

So I just got a message from Itaru of Rumspringa with the following…

Hey yall, so you might already know that I am friends with Shia (we grew up together) that is part of the reason he made our last music video ………..Anyway, so hes doing Cage’s New Video and its his first big production (so he asked for my help to get a crowd to come out, come out and be in the crowd…….Cage is one of the most talented MCs out there, I kid you not……..You will not regret it…..

Shia is really getting on with directing music videos which I think is awesome. Here’s the info for TODAY.

Sunday, February 22, 2009
3:30pm – 6:00pm
American Apparel Factory (Downtown)(look for signs)
747 Warehouse St.
Los Angeles, CA
map

For more info refer to the Fbook event here. In an interesting twist, Shia is also hoping to play Cage in a biopic. If you’re not familiar with the history and style of Cage, I highly suggest catching up on his Wikipedia page here. Pitchfork appearance here. I’ll leave you with a paragraph from the Spin article linked above. NOW GET TO THAT VIDEO SHOOT!

“He wanted to do a documentary on me, but I deleted the first few e-mails thinking he was just another random film student,” the MC born Chris Palko recalls. “When I mentioned it to some friends, they were like, ‘Are you kidding me? I fucking love [LaBeouf's Disney series] Even Stevens!’ ” Soon after, Cage allowed LaBeouf to film his 2006 tour, at which point the actor decided that the Def Jux rapper’s tumultuous life story — which included hard drugs, suicide attempts, and a stint in a psychiatric ward — was big-screen worthy. “I was a basket case, with a head full of PCP,” Cage says of his past. “My story’s real as fuck, and I’m confident that we can capture that.”

Shia Labeouf’s Rumspringa Video

How many bands can credit their latest music video to ex-Even Stevens, current Indiana Jones heir Shia Labeouf. One. And that band happens to be our close pals in Rumspringa. I’ve gotta hand it to him, he has done a fantastic job with “Minds Awake” and I can’t wait to see the future of Grassy Slope. If you made it to Rumspringa’s show at The Unknown Theatre in January then you took part in the music video, congrats! And big ups to Labeouf.

You can catch Rumspringa at FMLY’s SXSW Thursday show.
