Big ups to BJ Rubin, currently of Puttin on the Ritz, for sharing a one day classic that is sure to warm your heart and all else if the sun hasn’t gotten to it already. I see BJ at a good number of great shows as he’s usually the guy standing right by me talking to the band and until stumbling upon his blog (that has a .org?) it seemed like he was friends was everyone, now it’s confirmed, he is friends with everyone. Thanks for letting me grab some shade from your umbrella at Fort Tilden last weekend man. And an extended thanks for this early CD.

As you may not have guessed, with the good word of his pal Rob Barber BJ has tossed up the earliest of High Places demos around. This couldn’t have come at a better time as High Places produce groovy summer loving sounds and with their recent move to Los Angeles to begin recording their second album we’ve become pretty antsy for unfamiliar places.

“We wanted to do a band we thought was noise music, rooted in punk, but that somehow had a smile on it’s face. We wanted to be super loud and weird, but we wanted to be at emotional odds with all the other loud noisy bands in Brooklyn. I guess being punk, or going against the grain to us meant to try to approach experimental or noise music in a densely shrouded warmer pop based approach, but still being weird and loud. Come to think of it, I guess that still is the impetus for us as we begin to write our sophomore album. But we still like to break the rules.” (Rob)

You should probably bookmark the site as well, it’s certainly one of the strongest music-based sites out there as BJ is friends with a large percentage of folks whom we love and tends to get a direct word out from them.
