oh man, i love that song

The Universe is most commonly defined as everything that physically exists: the entirety of space and time, all forms of matter, energy and momentum, and the physical laws and constants that govern them. According to some speculations, this universe may be one of many disconnected universes, which are collectively denoted as the multiverse. Illnyckyj is determined by a struggle between the momentum of expansion and the pull of gravity. It is so well designed that it must have had a designer, the complete guide to dimension.

Among the “remix” elite (in my book) Illnyckyj rests with today’s chilled-to-the-max best alongside Quarterbar, Banjo or Freakout, and and James & Evander; rather than the remix these are totally epic re-imaginations. Gripping your previous attachments to the classic tunes, Illnyckyj coerces those feelings into a realm of Wes Anderson, group sing-a-longs, and teenage love affairs. Parallel dimension indeed…hop in and get wet.

The track below is last year’s “HYPNTZ” by Dan Black, a super original take on a Biggie classic which boasts an incredibly dope chorus. The arrangement samples drums from Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” strings from the Starman soundtrack, and Biggie’s lyrics. However, Big Poppa’s estate wasn’t so down with this usage and didn’t give Black the go ahead to release “HYPNTZ” on a record…bummer. Having to rewrite the lyrics spawned “Lost the track, struggled back” and voila, “Symphonies” was produced. Peep the “Symphonies” video above, download the “HYPNTZ” cover below.

Hit up BlackSpace for more tunes including a Passion Pit remix of “Symphonies.” Black’s debut album will drop July 13, purchase it from overseas here.

I consider myself an appreciator of the freak arts; I love early Animal Collective, These Are Powers and lots of other sounds that I hear a lot of smack about. It’s been a long time since I’ve uttered these words, but I do not understand Emily Wells’ cover of “Juicy.” I just sorta wish she said “nigga,” but feel free to form your own opinion.

I found this related video, a ukulele cover of “Juicy” that I’m totally down with. Take a lesson Emily, smile and have a good time when you dance with Biggie! And yes…this girl says nigga.

So I’ve given a shout out to the alt girls and a shout out to the ukulele, but what about the bros? Here’s a cover of “Big Poppa” that you may or may not want to forget three-and-a-half minutes from now. Isn’t this the lead singer from Crazy Town?

I DJ’d in Bed Stuy last night, and appropriately this is the track that I closed my set on.
