All the way from Ireland, Bobby was one of the first dudes to hit us up about being part of the fmly back in the day with his infectiously whistlable Dublin Duck Dispensary project, and it comes with a great smile to spread word that DDD is now No Monster Club! With tunes as fun as these names, we’re way excited to pass on that No Monster Club is dropping a 20track double EP Tropical Decibels Volumes One and Two on Cass/Flick Recordings in a few weeks. Why the change in name? Bobby says, “I HATE MONSTERS.”
If FMLY ever made a pin-up calendar, Evan Voytas would most likely take the initial January photo. Then probably February through centerfold. Basically, we think this video is amazingly adorable and think everyone needs taste. Directing props go to Carlos Charlie Perez who just wrapped up shoot with a new Vampire Weekend tune.
Chaz is a beauty bumpin’ Reason like there ain’t no logic to it. In The video that went up yesterday for “Blessa,” directed by Jon Casey, we get our first taste of Toro y Moi rockin’ a South Carolina house party. Peep the good times above.
I’ve really been looking forward to this, and it’s def satisfyingly adorable. The homie Zach Tipton aka I Am The Dot just finished editing his first music video for his tune “Love Song For Camus.” It’s a jam of mine and I’m stoked that this turned out so charming. Zach is looking for shows at SXSW so if anyone is throwing parties please hit him up! And make sure to download I Am The Dot’s Rare Creatures EP and the Winter EP with Boneless for free/donation right here.
Newish video from the homie Lost Boy?, directed by Séamus McGuire. If you like what ya hear, head over to Lofi High (Lost Boy?’s blogspot) to download everything Lost Boy? related and affiliated. Way cool. Lost Boy? has some shows coming up at Shea Stadium and Don Pedro’s in Brooklyn, hit ‘em up if you can.
Sometimes when it’s cold out you just want to scream and see how far your voice reaches before it needs the warmth of absorption into the buildings and trees. Hanging out with a group of close friends is that absorption, when a level of intimacy is reached with every person in the room so that all you want to do is lay there and know one another. Johnny Andrews, aka the MAD MOUTH // WISDOM TOOTH dude, sent me a CD with some of his tunes and while I lay in my room and the sun rises I’m no longer alone. The air around me has become embracing and the sun is a great hand of the universe waving hello. Johnny is working on a new record, THE SOONER YOU SLEEP, THE SOONER YOU WAKE, which you can expect to hear in its entirety around May 2010. Until then we’ve got a video for the new tune “Now We Know” to enjoy the hell out of.
To be honest I’ve really been feeling some tracks on the KiD CuDi album, but for months I’ve disliked the dude’s flows so I’m not quite ready to embrace my feelings. Ratatat and Common, why do you make my life so difficult! In place of “Make Her Say” or “Pursuit of Happiness,” here’s the jam for you to rawk out to. Video above, just because it might be as awesome as seeing Animal Collective live. Uh, don’t peep it if you have a weak stomach, are easily offended or are a die-hard feminist. We’re all educated on the male gaze and global objectification of the female body – this is study material.
Glass Ghost’s video for “Like A Diamond” pulls off something that not too many videos do nowadays, it demonstrates complementary intertextuality rather than practicing tangents and other forms of contemporary ADD. Arranged with awesome 80’s PSA-esque footage the empty space within the video parallels so well with the tune itself. Check it out.
“Like A Diamond” is on GG’s forthcoming debut LP, Idol Omen, via Western Vinyl. Mike and Eliot are currently on tour, peep the dates here.
The homies in Ninjasonik just premiered their latest video for a newly produced live staple, “Somebody Gonna Get Pregnant,” featuring some special appearances from Matt & Kim, TheDeathSet, Roxy Cottontail, Prince Terrance of Heartsrevolution and then of course the Brooklyn chill team. And uh, it looks like FMLY is web premiering this remix. Rad!
