Everyone knows that Moby makes that mad funky music we all like to get down to but he also cares about our planet. In his new book, Gristle, he talks about the impact of our food resources.
For the book, Moby and Miyun Park brought together fifteen of the country’s leading voices on this issue-including foodies, policymakers, food business leaders, and food activists-who eloquently lay out how and why the over-consumption of industrially produced meat unnecessarily harms agricultural workers, communities, the environment, human health, as well as animals. Combining hard-hitting facts with a light touch—plus fascinating charts and illustrations depicting the stark realities of America’s industrial food system—Gristle is the first stop for everyone who wants to make informed choices about the food they consume.
It’s important to know where our food comes from and the process by which it gets to us. On March 23rd Moby will be participating in a Q&A at the Skirball center followed by a book signing. If you don’t know where you are eating from, maybe it’s time to hear it from Moby. Tickets are free but a reservation is required which you can sign up for right here.
Hopefully we can all agree that Radiohead is an exceptional group of talented musicians whom we all care very deeply for. Unfortunately for us, the “music biz” and “authentic personalities” like to reach out by covering a Radiohead jam and maybe throwing in a ‘fucking’ here and there for either indie cred, youtube hits or whatever other sick idea brews within their head. An even greater misfortune is that 90% of the time it is “Creep” that is covered and I speak for a global community of fans when I say that we just can’t take it anymore. If KROQ in Los Angeles didn’t kill the tune then Korn did and if Korn didn’t then someone else did…who am I kidding, Korn definitely did.
My point is, there are so many amazing Radiohead tunes. Why do musicians choose to slay the same one over and over and over and over again? Yeah, it’s an incredible sing-a-long and everyone can find a time in their life where “Creep” was incredibly meaningful to their identity, but what about the song’s aura of authenticity? I don’t even know if I could ever even watch Radiohead themselves play creep ever again! Many more covers after the jump from Korn, Moby, Ingrid Michaelson, The Pretenders, Anni Rossi, Amanda Palmer and countless more. Most of these are very well done and I like them quite a bit, and do continue to cover Radiohead, but please choose a different song or show the tune a new light. Walter Benjamin would have a field day on this one.
Fuck Daft Punk. Fuck The Rolling Stones. Fuck Radiohead. Fuck Roger Waters. Fuck Iron Maiden. There is one man in this galaxy that rings true to human nature, one man who speaks the absolute world. That man is Moby. Backed by a live band and switching between bass, guitar, and vocal duties Moby puts on one of the greatest live performances that you could ever imagine. Hearing “Natural Blues,” “Porcelain,” and “We Are All Made Of Stars” live with two female singers, a guitar, bass, keyboard and drummer reflects all beauty in life. If you’re not a recreational drug user I would not advise seeing Moby, because his performance alone will get you fucked up. If you’re attending the Electric Daisy Carnival on June 28th, do NOT miss Moby.
Moby has been DJing all around the country but when he gets to LA, something special will happen. He will be playing a live, full band set in a intimate 200 capacity venue at FOX studios for a Yahoo music taping on May 21. Do you want a chance to see Moby live? All you have to do is be one of the first 200 people to sign up by clicking here.
