Our lovely frnds in Toronto just released the b-side of their To The Lighthouse 7″ – due March 2 – for the internet masses to catch wind of, and with this storm hitting New York right now it’s difficult to find a more well-suited anthem. Thanks Memoryhouse! Pre-order your physical copy (limited to 500) right here and receive a copy of the tune “Coma” as well. And if you missed it, Memoryhouse made FMLY a special mixtape that we dropped on Valentine’s day. You can peek at it over here. Look for Memoryhouse coming to a city near you, sooner than you think!
We had really wanted to do a “theme mix”, and in it’s infancy, this was aimed towards Valentine’s Day. Fortunately, we got distracted within the first few minutes and decided to stick with a soundtrack that focused on mood rather than theme. Besides, if you really want someone telling you how to feel on Valentine’s Day, then I suggest going to see Valentine’s Day: The Movie this weekend (seriously though, do not go see Valentines Day: The Movie this weekend).
This mix contains some of our favorite ambient musicians, as well as some great indie rock hailing from our neck of the woods. The overall mood evokes a delirious, introspective atmosphere that can be enjoyed while driving alone, or laying in bed with another. In a sense, it represents the soft, diffused light from the sky when the sun is below the horizon, existing briefly in a liminal state between day and night.

New video for a Memoryhouse dream jogger, “Coma.” The duo also popped up on MASSES today with an interview to talk about their upcoming live performances, what they’re listening to, and even dropped the fmly name. Sweet! A To The Lighthouse 7″ is coming out March 2 with an EP, Looms of Youth, to follow in the Spring. Download The Years EP for free right here.
Not even a week into the new year and fresh genre-defying tapes are dropping like it’s hot. Toro Y Moi’s Causers of This came out on iTunes today, but if you’re waiting for the physical version may I recommend some jams of 2010 to hold over that aural libido in the meantime?
Memoryhouse’s debut EP, The Years, came out today for free courtesy of Arcade Sound Ltd, with a cassette and 7″ to follow in the spring. Skydiving for sounds, Memoryhouse is a sedative for the overactive mind and the blanket you wake up smothered in after passing out on the couch. Denise and Evan are the dreamsounds for wanderers lost in the clouds.
Today is going to be a video heavy day. To mark the afternoon and those of you rolling out of bed to your mid-day class or taking a lunch break with the ol’ iPhone make sure to bliss out to this video for Memoryhouse’s “To The Lighthouse” put up this morning. To celebrate, here’s a Memoryhouse tune we haven’t previously posted! Fuck, I love this band.
For the scoop on Memoryhouse, the duo was featured in Neu Magazine so head here and check that out. And the BEKO digital single label released Memoryhouse’s digital single this morning so head to their site to download it for free. The twofer features a brand new song on the b-side, “Lately.” While you’re there, check out the other rad bands that BEKO features like Boneless, Tan Dollar, MillionYoung, Nude Beach, and Woven Tales!
If you’ve got a nasty food hangover and need to shed off some layers of delicious memories for transcending bliss, may I point you in the direction of Memoryhouse? Settling in the restful hours when the illusion of consciousness becomes dream, and dream become a momentarily traumatizing reality, the caress of Memoryhouse can be the most enlightening moment of lucidity.
in a probably related event, Memoryhouse, Max Richter’s way out of print debut album with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, saw a reissue in November. I would say that you could cop it at FatCat Records, but it seems that it’s already out of stock again.
