If there’s anyone who deserves a great big hug this summer it’s Will Wiesenfeld for the pursuit of [Post-foetus] and developing a sound which encompasses the senses of himself and closest friends. The [Post-foetus] live band including Luke Silas (Anamanaguchi, The Histories, Dracula Mountain, Nephews, etc), Mario Luna (Meals for Children, Nephews, Kingsley, Milk), Georgia Lill, Jane Kilcullen, and John Wiesenfeld opened for Fol Chen at the Echo on June 4 and luckily some very rad videos have surfaced of our personal favorite tune “Weak Will” (above) and the ever-dope “Soundlight” (below). These videos are not to be observed sitting down. Dim the lights, raise the volume, full screen, press play and inhale the essence. The Histories – Like Parties Mean Anything
I just got this one in the mail from the mysterious Philip Seymour Hoffman and it really couldn’t have come at a more exciting time. By now I’m sure that most of you have picked up Dan Deacon’s Bromst and have probably either worn the vinyl out, scratched the CD from bringing it car to car or have burnt out your computer from too many repeated plays. Needless to say, the album is inspiring, captivating from start to finish and a beautiful display of what happens when you get together with your FRNDS. Wham City, FMLY has always been full of huge appreciators and we always will be.
Back to PSH, this anonymous character sent over an arrangement of four parts from three Dan Deacon tracks off of Bromst with added keyboards and vocals. The outcome isn’t necessarily a rework as we saw with PSH’s take on Meals for Children’s “Geebot,” but a new perspective on a fresh album that is worth checking out.

This line-up really couldn’t speak to us more. I believe this will be Mario Luna’s (Meals for Children, The Histories, Nephews, etc) first show as Kingsley and I’m not sure what Family of Ghosts is, but my best guess is something to do with The Histories. Speaking of The Histories, Reid and Maxwell have thrown up a new song, “Like Lions,” on the Reid and Maxwell MySpace. Both approach vocals differently in this tune; Reid’s falsettos are stronger than ever and Maxwell’s voice…well I can’t even describe the transformation it’s taking. As with the the rest of their work, check it out.

Recently blogged about Philip Seymour Hoffman has dropped a live open practice. “For an entire week we jammed in my apartment using a Hello Kitty toaster, pots&pans, fender telecaster w/ the pod xt, acoustic guitar, midiman oxygen8 keyboard and an m-audio trigger finger…of course with recreational drugs and whatever could spontaneously be used as an instrument.
I pressed record on my mac and here are the raw sounds which we made. Over the past few days I have done minor editing which includes looping the guitar, adding a couple of affected vocal tracks and distorting the electric guitar into a continuous running sound.”

Finally, I’ll be landing in Los Angeles this week and I’m staying until the 20th, so if anyone wants to talk new Animal Collective or just chill then drop a comment or email.
Not much is known about Philip Seymour Hoffman other than having rad influences and not much sense of style for MySpace. Presenting varied forms of music it’s clear that an established goal has not been set, but as stated in the bio, “these parts portray no more significance than the moment which they were created, these are pieces unseparated from the feelings which they were born from.” My reason for introducing PSH to the FMLY blog is that a cover of Meals for Children’s “Geebot” rose in the name. I’d hesitate to call this a cover, but more a reinterpretation/reimagination entitled, “Gee, bot?”. With a subtly altered guitar progression, children’s xylophone, dense vocals (and whistling?) and a haunting general echo “Geebot” has certainly taken a direction with noticing.

Meals for Children released a new song yesterday for your listening pleasure. If you are a fan of indie music, warm days, and cuddling I’m pretty sure you will like this.
