Lucky Dragons in Paris
“Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.”
-Marie Curie

I don’t know if this is a stretch, but if we have any readers in Portland then I have to recommend an incredible show for tomorrow night. Lucky Dragons, White Rainbow, Rob Walmart and Dash will play an all ages show at Hush on 14 NW 3rd @ Burnside. Now we’ve spoken about Lucky Dragons a lot recently, and Dream Island Laughing Language made my best of ‘08 so no more needs to be said at this moment, but White Rainbow and Rob Walmart are an incredible example of teamwork. During CMJ week I caught up with White Rainbow in Brooklyn, he was in an old postal or ice cream truck with Rob Walmart just playing music in the rain on the sidewalk. Maybe I was in a different state at the time, but what an incredible experience! I’d just like for everyone to experience shows from inside of cars.
Thanks to Blah, Blah, Bitch, Blah, Blah for taking pictures!
And what a crazy night it was. First of all I just wanted to address a couple complaints we had regarding Japanther’s set. They were supposed to play a full set with Ninjasonik and last night and the night before at Temporary Spaces. Unfortunately literally the day before the show Ian Vanek of Japanther was forced to fly to Washington for emergency dental surgery. If you are reading this, I hope you are feeling better and can come out to LA again soon. Ian and Matt were then faced with a tough decision. Not wanting to disappoint their fans, they came up with an alternative solution. They decided that Matt would perform Japanther songs with the help of their good friends Ninjasonik. I’m sorry for those of you who were disappointed but Ian has promised us that in 2009 Japanther will return to LA to play as a full band with FMLY.
“Half of Japanther was two states away getting emergency dental surgery, this couldn’t be avoided and came on very quickly. We value all people excited to dance to our group but also value our members health. We hope to play another FMLY show very soon.”
-Ian of Japanther
Anyway the night started out with an amazing interactive performance by Lucky Dragons involving gongs, purposely shorted out instrument cables and a ton of other odds and ends. If you missed them this time around, don’t worry, we plan on making Lucky Dragons a bigger part of the FMLY.
Up next we were graced with the ever cute Blackblack who’s familiar indie pop tunes lifted our spirits and got us singing along.
Funeral Party brought the house down with hit after hit.
And then Ninjasonik and Matt of Japanther brought the house DOWN with a combined set over an hour long. I have never seen so many LA people dance that much at a show before.
Inter-band lovin
Go to Blah, Blah, Bitch, Blah, Blah to check out a ton more pictures.
Look out because in the next day or two we will be posting up video from the show. Thank you all for coming and making it a wonderful night.

We are very excited about this Saturday as we unveil the first of many FMLY DIY spaces. We can’t sell alcohol so BRING YOUR OWN BEER. Our first show at Enjoy Human will be done right as we bring in some of our favorites from both coasts. Some call us crazy for making this line up; others called us idiots. We like to think of ourselves as mavericks. So join us Saturday for Lucky Dragons, Blackblack, Ninjasonik, Japanther, and Funeral Party.
Tickets are $5 if you rsvp at rsvp@thefmly.com
Till then, Pre-party to these music videos.
Japanther – Challange

What a great big fuckin’ coincidence! Lucky Dragons, just hours after I posted on them, have been added to FMLY’s DO-WHATEVER-THE-FUCK-YOU-WANNA-DO-AND-BE-WHOEVER-THE-FUCK-YOU-WANNA-BE night of debauchery, booty-beats and dancing with Ninjasonik, Japanther, Funeral Party and Blackblack.
we love LD for just excelling in all categories and being such involved and dedicated artists. sara and luke are a dream team of beautiful minds and we’re so pumped to get them on board.
Don’t forget to rsvp via facebook here. Tickets at the door are $10, but are reduced to $5 if you send an email to rsvp@thefmly.com. Have a delicious Thanksgiving, especially to the vegans out there.
