Cop Magnet seriously keeps the juices flowing, the orange trees growing, and this site in a devastated mourning between tracks. Thrown out last night via the Cop Magnet MySpace is a new jam slash remix on my favorite tune of the decade, Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” feat Alicia Keys. However, this scenario brings us Cop Magnet’s “I’m Higher State of Mind” feat Philip Seymour Hoffman making this oversexed duo Philip Seymour Hoffmagnet…or Copffman? Let’s not get too Martin Scorsese right before Thanksgiving. This one brings together Boston and New York for a sweet lil’ collab that we’re happy to bring to you.

alright, maybe tune of the decade was a bit too far…

blink in eight bits

We talk about 8-bit tunes a lot on this site, most of them falling under the category of bitpop. For reference, here’s the Wiki definition of what bitpop is.

Bitpop is a type of electronic music, where at least part of the music is made using old 8-bit computers, game consoles and little toy instruments. Popular choices are the Commodore 64, Game Boy, Atari 2600 and Nintendo Entertainment System.

Everyone seemed to love that Blink-182 vs Jay-Z mash a few days back so I thought I’d put together a taste of BlinkBit! To give you some personal history, Blink-182 is my favorite band of all-time and even though Animal Collective, Daft Punk, and Black Moth Super Rainbow among others are the loves of my life no one can ever touch the holy grail trio that is Blink. This holds true for a good part of us FMLY bloggers and if you’re “feeling this” the same way then rad.

On Buddha, Blink unveiled their cover of the Screeching Weasels’ “The Girl Next Door” which is definitely a favorite tune of ours. Malaysian 8-bit dance party, mikrochip no32, has been kind enough to hit us up with a cover of Blink’s “The Girl Next Door” that I can’t stop rocking out to. Listen to this and more rad mikrochip no32 tracks via 8bitcollective.

“Feeling This,” the first single off of Blink’s last album was definitely one of the hottest music videos I had ever seen at the time – I’m sure a few girls threw themselves in jail to get a taste of that. The UK’s Breakbeat Heartbeat has provided an awesome RMX/CVR of Blink’s “Feeling This” and has even more great tunes on his page which I highly recommend checking out.

And finally, I present to you “The Rock Show” like you’ve never heard it before. Big ups to ColeTrain for putting together this totally awesome remix/cover, we can’t get enough of it!

Morning Inspiration

Good morning everyone, today is the big day that decides the fate of our nation, our people and the rest of our human existence. It’s good to eat a hearty breakfast in the morning, take a shower and head to your polling place before class, work, going back to sleep or whatever it is that you each do. Hopefully you’ll check the blog before you leave because I have some words of inspiration from my boy Jay-Z.

“I need y’all to be really, really quiet for this. I need you to really understand what I’m telling you,” Jay-Z said.” Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther King could walk. Martin Luther King walked so Obama could run. Obama’s running so we all can fly.” [via]

Jay-Z Discovers "Wonderwall"

This man never ceases to surprise me. Jay-Z gives a drunken karaoke performance of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” at a music festival in Glastonbury this weekend.

What’s On Obama’s iPod?

“Barack Obama is a Stevie Wonder geek. In the Democratic presidential candidate’s new interview with Rolling Stone editor-in-chief Jann S. Wenner, Obama waxed rhapsodic about his favorite artists, many of whom — Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Jay-Z — have shown him love with endorsements.
“If I had one musical hero, it would have to be Stevie Wonder,” says Obama, who grew up on Seventies R&B and rock staples including Earth, Wind and Fire, Elton John and the Rolling Stones. “When I was at that point where you start getting involved in music, Stevie had that run with Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Fulfillingness’ First Finale and Innervisions, and then Songs in the Key of Life. Those are as brilliant a set of five albums as we’ve ever seen.”

The democratic nominee has also admitted to enjoying Sheryl Crow, but who can blame him for that? To read the rest of the interview, pick up an issue of July’s Rolling Stone Magazine.

The Fall of an Empire pt 2

Jay-Z is now on the verge of a deal with Live Nation for $150 million. THAT’S A SPICY MEATBALL! The deal should be finalized by the end of the week.

What would you do with $150 million?
