the future is now

and it is in the hands of our good friend Carles aka CRLS…LEADER OF THE HIPSTER RUNOFFS. He has popped up in New York Mag (at least twice), The Village Voice and many others, but perhaps the most impressive runoff from this hawt site is the reactionary Hipster Runoff Exegesis, “an exposition of the philosophy of Carles as expressed on his weblog.” When it comes to the blogodome, CRLS has no joke become historical.

Let this post serve as a public and informal announcement of HRO’s historical impact on web culture. CRLS has developed his own self-referential system simulating the destruction of a reality, however, this reality has not grown away from its primary host allowing the super-entity to manifest. As Jean Baurillard said, “Reality, having lost its natural predators, is growing like some proliferating species…The Real is growing like the desert. Welcome to the Desert of the Real.”

Radiohead – Nude (Hipster Runoff remix)

radiohead in the studio

As visible in the photo above, it looks as though Thom Yorke has finally given up. Honestly, I think it’s about time because I really don’t know how he was planning on topping In Rainbows. Perhaps I should be more specific… Thom is not giving up music, but rather – as you can see – signing his soul over to the Devil [and Daniel Johnston] for a sound that will top what we heard in 2007.

Radiohead have gone back into the studio to start work on the follow-up to their 2007 album In Rainbows.

“We just went in last week,” bassist Colin Greenwood said. “It was really good. It was really noisy and chaotic and really fun.”

But the group do not have fully formed songs yet, he said.

“We’re at the stage where we’ve got the big Lego box out and we’ve tipped it out on the floor and we’re looking at all the bits and thinking, what next?”

The new album, which will be their eighth, will again see producer Nigel Godrich work with the band. [via BBC]

If you remember last summer, then you may have that new Radiohead tune on your computer. If not, it’s an unformed melodic and gorgeous arrangement called “Super Collider.” Video after the jump, download below.

dim mak make porn = dick jamz mixtape

I’ve bit down on my tongue pretty hard recently when it comes to personal matters such as this one, but for those of you who were around when the blog started then it’s no surprise to hear that I hate Dim Mak and all of the baggage it carries. Over time this hate has become less passionate as I’ve just learned to ignore anything and everything coming out of that camp, keep folks out of my life who think that the Cobrasnake (I’m not even going to link to him) is kewl, and so on and so forth. But enough of this shit talking because that’s not what we enjoy doing and it’s not what FMLY is about.

The news: there is a Dim Mak related porn on the internet. Is this what the record industry is coming to? I don’t know who Andy San Dimas is, but I’m going to guess that she along with the bro are way-too-devoted Dim Mak interns. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but feel free to watch the porn after the jump. If this is a publicity stunt, then I can honestly say it’s totally fitting for Aoki and his crew, but only if San Dimas was 16 or so. Thank you to our boy CRLS at Hipster Runoff for the tip.

FMLY Plays Catch Up

We’ve been soaking up some serious rays at SXSW and after a week of partying with our FRNDS and favorite bands it’s time to get back to a reality where you don’t run into Annie Clark (St. Vincent) on the corner or spend hours gazing at gorgeous could-be Jenny Lewis’…depending on what you do with your time.

First on the agenda is an awesome representation of Wavves’ “No Hope Kids.” Matched with the eerie visuals of a British railroad safety PSA from 1977, it’s surprising to see how well Nathan’s energy correlates. To everyone who caught Wavves at SXSW, how was he? Playing 10 shows per day can certainly try a man’s spirit, unless you’re one of the blogodome’s most beloved and have figured out a method of feeding off of that! Check out Wavves on Hipster Runoff here.

Wavves – No Hope Kids

Next up is the enthralling magic of Sigur Ros and the way their spirit carries over onto video with the help of Vincent Moon and his always praised Take Away Shows. Performing “Við spilum endalaust,” enjoy.

tip: If you find yourself in NYC tomorrow then there’s going to be a screening of the long-anticipated Gorillaz documentary, BANANAZ, at the NYC Soho Apple Store TOMORROW, March 24th, at 6:30 PM, followed by a Q+A session with director Ceri Levy. If you miss this, you’ll have to wait until it’s released publicly on April 20.

check it: Before Oh My Rockness became the apple of my eye, I was living in Los Angeles and relied on Los Anjealous for my show-going recommendations. Looks like they caught onto what we’re doing and stopped by our show with The Bird and The Bee, Haim, The Damn Sons and [Post-foetus] last week. Big thanks to Mark for contributing an awesome review to the site!

I learned about FMLY that evening, described by Gray on the staircase as “a music collective, an art collective, basically throws shows, dedicates itself to bringing music back into prominence and is for the people.”

Catch the rest here.

Three Leaves And A Radiohead

I received a mysterious email from France today letting me know about some remixes I may like and let me just say Etienne, thank you. Much like the stunning Amplive Radiohead Remixes and imaginative Flying Lotus reinterpretation, Three Leaves And A Head take “Nude” and “Reckoner” into a new context that reintroduces the fan to In Rainbows. Now I’m a picky guy when it comes to remixes, especially concerning Radiohead, but my jaw was literally floored after watching these remixes correspond the the official videos. Honesty, I feel as though Etienne’s interpretation takes on a better relationship with the video whereas Radiohead’s tunes seemed more autonomous. Highly recommended to ‘head fans and those looking to join the club – also recommended for connoisseurs of the ambient.

Notes Before Bed

[via HRO]

I’ve found myself incredibly into Banjo or Freakout who have consistently provided the blogosphere with on point covers of Burial’s “Archangel,” Vampire Weekend’s “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” and now Radiohead’s “All I Need.” Being a contender for some of my favorite tracks of the year I could imagine no better show than Banjo or Freakout and Panda Bear. Find the covers here.

The Octopus Project’s “I Saw the Bright Shinies” has now made its way to video, follow this link to the band’s site and check it out. It couldn’t be more fitting for the track.

Goodnight FMLY.

El Guincho Is Your Favorite

To start, I’m definitely not writing a better post on el Guincho than Hipster Runoff did, so if you’re interested in reading that it is right here. I’ve been noticing lately that not as many people as I believed know the magic of el Guincho, which is why he is on this blog. Since SXSW, the phenomenal performances of el Guincho have been all that bloggers are talking about. “El Guincho is the next Panda Bear, a genius of contemporary music” say music critics*. If you’re unfamiliar, this is enough information for you to hold a decent el Guincho conversation: he is Spanish, pretty young but not that young, makes tropical ‘animal collective-like’ music which you could also refer to as world music or avant-ambient if you will and the album that everyone is listening to is called Alegranza!. If you want to be an ‘in-the-know’ kind of el Guincho fan you can spell the alias of Pablo Diaz-Reixa as el Guinco and not El Guincho, you can refer to el Guincho as Pablo in conversation, you can drop that he uses the Roland SP-404 which you can also found being used by Panda Bear and Geologist of Animal Collective as well as MadLib, J Dilla and MF Doom. Anyways, I think that’s enough pretentious info on Pablo. To end, can you tell me what el Guincho means? Seriously, I don’t know.

[mediafire is actin' a fool and i've gotta jet, here's Pab's vid for Kalise and i'll post the track later]

2008, You’re Beautiful

What will YOU remember 2008 by?
With all that has and will happen in the year 2008, what will be its defining moment? In 20 years will you tell your kids about the Clinton vs Obama vs McCain 3sum for presidency? Will you tell them about your still favorite band, Vampire Weekend? How about when you saw a shitty Justice performance on the MySpace music tour and then a shittier one at Coachella? Well…to make it easier, here are some milestones for you to keep track of.

FMLY presents…shit to remember at the end of the year and maybe be thankful for during Thanksgiving.

Chanel will release, with their Spring collection, the first “couture” bicycle for a mere $12,000. It’s like a car that you can’t take outside!

The hipster Indian FMLY with a two-faced baby. I see evolution and superhero potential.

Or will you remember how The Cobrasnake and friends took over the world and rewrote history with Mark’s time-altering super high resolution camera?

From left to right: dj danny masterson aka dj mom jeans aka hyde from that 70’s show, dj dan oh, dj skeet skeet, dj am, dj steve aoki aka the biggest douche in the world, the cobrasnake aka the second biggest, cory kennedy, jeremy scott, mickey avalon, cisco adler, shwayze.

Tell FMLY what you’ll remember. Personally, what I remember in 20 years will be the Hipster Runoff remix of Radiohead and the Party Time 2000 remix of the HRO remix of Radiohead – both of which you can download on this blog!
