We are very sad to announce that Pangea won’t be playing the FMLY RIDE this month due to the drummer having dislocated his knee last week at a show. Let’s send our good energy to him for a speedy recovery. Luckily we are very fortunate to have Las Cafeteras join the ride. These guys are such a good time. I had the pleasure of catching them at the Mayan opening for Fool’s Gold and Edward Sharpe and they fit in that same vain but with a Mexican Regional twist to it. They will be playing the eastside ride which is meeting at Spring and Cesar Chavez at 7:00 pm this Saturday. If you live on the westside, we have some amazing bands as well and we are meeting at Cloverfield Park in Santa Monica. If you’ve never been on a mass ride, you don’t know what you are missing out on and owe it to yourself to try it out. If you need a bike, post something on the wall of the Facebook page

Far too many awesome tracks dropped in the past week, so rather than taking a magnifying glass to each one lets set our memories straight and gorge like we just collected a heap o’ Halloween candy!
White Hinterland covered this decade’s 26th best tune and somehow made it audibly more impressive – yo p4k, lets get a recount! Casey Dienel, you’re oh so perfect. Pick this up from her tour-exclusive EP, Fresh From the Garden.
White Hinterland – My Love (Justin Timberlake cover)
Fool’s Gold had to drop from our CMJ party and we’re all super bummed to be missing our Los Angeles brethren. However, when Phaseone gets his hands on anything we tend to smile a ton so it’s only natural that his work on “Surprise Hotel” has me drumming on my desk like Clipse’s “Grindin” just came out. Straight up gorgeous.
Fool’s Gold – Surprise Hotel (Phaseone remix)
Panda Bear – I’m Not (Phaseone remix)
J Dilla – Walkinonit (Phaseone remix)
New jam from Pure Ecstasy courtesy of Friendship Bracelet. “EASY” floats along the top of the skyline bouncing off building tops and brushing against the base of clouds. Purce Ecstasy is the ice cream flavor that we dream about. Wow that can be taken out of context…just download and love. Pre-order the single here.
Pure Ecstasy – EASY
Pure Ecstasy – Pressure Drop (Toots and the Maytals Cover)
I’ll round this out with our long-time love affair White Rainbow. Since we’ve been jamming out to White Rainbow boogie has not been the first word that comes to mind but if you caught Adam on the Dan Deacon/No Age/Deerhunter round robin tour he was breaking beats like no one’s business! Well, maybe GDFX if he threw in some badass samples. Here’s a recent tune.

You might remember our Friends Pizza! from this week’s Public Education playlist as well as Beach Dazed and the Museum of Neon Art show a while back (memory refresher here). Well the boys have just joined Manimal Vinyl’s already awesome roster for the release of their second EP in 2010. On October 5th Manimal will be releasing a digital only compilation of Pizza!’s best stuff. “The release will include fifteen remastered favorites, representing all of our official releases and including a couple of other goodies.” In preparation for this new life for Pizza! They must remove their free discography from their site on Monday, September 21. This leaves us all with one more week to grab all those years of music for free.
Click here to download everything while it’s not too late!
To really welcome Pizza! to the Manimal crew, they were added to Manimal Festival in Pioneer Town, which I was already wetting myself over, joining Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Rainbow^Arabia, Fool’s Gold, Juliette Commagere and many others. I can’t think of any better way to spend $30 and a weekend than in the desert in an old movie set listening to some of the best music LA has to offer.

We busted all over another two hours of new music. Keep sending stuff in! We had enough music sent in this past week to fill half the show but we will continue to listen to every shred of music you send. You can send physical CD’s to
Public Education
5700 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 200
Los Angeles, CA 90036
or email us some mp3’s to publiceducation@thefmly.com and then listen in on Sundays from 6-8 pm pacific time because we’ll be playin’ it.
You check out the playlist after the jump with a ton of downloads from the show. Enjoy!

It’s not easy to think about in this heat right now but next month when it’s a little cooler, it’ll be time to mozy on out to Pioneertown in Joshua Tree for Manimal Vinyl’s second MANIMAL FESTVAL! It couldn’t take place in a cooler location. Pioneertown “started as a live-in Old West motion picture set, built in the 1940s. The movie set was designed to provide a place for the actors to live, and at the same time to have their homes used as part of the movie set” [via]. The desert and this line up combine offers nothing less than a religous experence.
Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes – Carries On
Rainbow Arabia – Harlem Sunrise
Juliette Commagere – Queens Die Proundly
VOICEsVOICEs – Flulyk

Flosstradamus – Overnight Star
Alright, I’m really tired of the confusion out there on the internet so we’re gonna settle this once and for all. J2K of Flosstradamus is Kid Sister’s brother. Kid Sister is dating A-Trak who balances heading Fool’s Gold and being Kanye’s DJ. A-Trak is also the brother of Dave 1 from Chromeo. Feel free to dig deeper, but for all of the misinformed blogs out there I hope this offers you a good start.
Related, A-Trak’s Infinity +1 comes out today along with new records from UGK, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Thunderheist, and more. Coppeth here.

It’s Friday night and time to celebrate the end of the week.
Fool’s Gold and BLK JKS will be getting your body moving for First Fridays at the Natural History Museum.
Moving Units are playing a sold out show tonight at the El Rey with our friends Rumspringa. If you have tickets for this, lucky you. It’s going to be a great show.
Robert Francis is playing a free show at HOME (2500 Riverside Deive Los Angeles, CA)

You know we’re fans of Luke Top and his work with Fool’s Gold. Check ‘em out next weekend at the Troub.

Its been a few minutes since I’ve spoken about Marc Bianchi, but with this new album underway I’m hoping that will change. Here’s a new free song!
originally we announced that the song “pass it on” (which was recently featured in the new playstation network commercial) would be released on an upcoming her space holiday ep due out in february. well, plans have changed. marc has been constantly recording the past few weeks, and is almost done with the next her space holiday full length. which we hope to have out in the fall of 09. he decided to hold off on material for the ep’s and concentrate instead on the next album.
in the meantime, since we have been getting hit with so many messages on how to purchase the track...mush and her space holiday have decided to leak the track early. just follow the link below, put in your email address, and it’s yours!

Who says you’ve gotta wear a Dodger’s hat to represent your hometown! Send ‘em our way and we’ll sit them down and teach them a thing or two about rocking the L.A. greatness on our iPods, on our bills and in our hearts. Coming up very soon is an event that we couldn’t be more proud to have become a part of, Snow In LA! Now we’ve dropped some info here and there concerning the show but finally it’s time to announce and get everyone psyched. Snow In LA, following suit of Fuck Yeah Fest, Sunset Junction and dozens of other great festivals throughout the year is a brand new all ages music festival. Think of it as a pre-game to Christmas and New Years, a celebration of Channukah and Kwanzaa or just a day of great music, and we want to get you all involved! For the inaugural fest and with the help of our buds at Ghettogloss and The Tape we present you Daedelus, Busdriver, The Mae Shi, Rumspringa, Entrance Band, Fool’s Gold and Haim. All L.A. all the time baby, let’s do our city proud! This all goes down at The Echoplex on December 21 so start picking out what you’re gonna wear, there are gonna be some hotties in town from school for this one.

Fool’s Gold just announced their CMJ showcase on October 23. Only issue I have is that the doors open at 11? If you do the math this show won’t be ending until sunrise but that’s fine by me. If you’re in NY hit this up Thursday, the FMLY showcase on Friday (I will announce the show officially this weekend) and then the IHEARTCOMIX birthday bash on Saturday. Nothing but good times, good vibes and good music my friends.
