bros on tour

The last couple weeks have been a little nutty to say the least. Since FMLY FEST in December, it’s been a whirlwind of live music, new friends, good times and expanding horizons. With the first FMLY tour now in the rear view, we would like to invite all of our FMLY to join us tomorrow night for the culmination of two amazing tours. Of course the FMLY DNR TR crew will be present (with the exception of Philip Seymour Hoffman who has migrated back east again). We will be clashing with our pals Weed Diamond, Tan Dollar, Wonder Wheel and Dash Jacket for a truly epic night of music, cheap drinks and good times. Most likely stories will be shared of time on the road and hugs will be plentiful. Of course it wouldn’t be a coming home show if it wasn’t at McWorld[map].

we’re imploding in 2010

Damn, sorry for all of the shows we have coming up. I think we’re either just getting mad antsy or there really is this much amazing music. TONIGHT is Grooms, 60 Watt Kid, Professor Calculus, and Tempo No Tempo which has changed locations to 5011. The address is on the left sidebar (fbook event / flyer). We’ve already clued you in on the FMLY New Years Eve bash in Santa Barbara as well as the FMLY DNR TR from Irvine to SF in early January plus the FMLY RIDE with Tan Dollar and Railcars on January 2, but there’s one teensy little thing we need to get off our chests and breasts right now…the FMLY FEST.

We’re nearing the end of the aughts and to put Thanksgiving to shame we’d love to embrace all of the kind folks, awesome jams and unique experiences we’ve shared together. We’d like to throw a real FMLY festival coming from the heart. If you have a zine, graphic design firm, tutoring biz, circuit bending club, bike co-op, vegan bakery, or just a love for all things respectful and communal then hit us back. If you have a band, art form, musical endeavor, journal, film, new sex position, installation that you’d like to share, we want it.

On December 27 and 28 at the new chill spot, 5011, FMLY wants to combine minds with everyone we’ve jammed with over time and toss as many new names into the mix as we can. Together, let’s write the last pages of this decade’s influence on us. Fuck yeah! Hit up cameronrath@thefmly.com or noah@thefmly.com to get involved.

Our FMLY New Years plans, however, reside in Santa Barbara, where we welcome you into our FMLY estate on DP in Isla Vista. Minutes away from the beach, surrounded by our close pals, we’re toasting our champagne to DJDT, Riplee, a Philip Seymour Hoffman dj set and much much more to be announced soon. Seriously though, this is a fucking party. We’ll caravan together on the 31st and give you all the details well before then. RSVP.

thank you, come again (and again and again)

It’s that time of the month again where we tear ourselves away from the computer screen, head out of our houses and into Mary Hotchkiss Park in Santa Monica of our monthly series Thank you, Come Again. As tradition goes, Thank you, Come again is outlet free fun where the artist and audience become the same and something unexpected always happens. The purpose of this event is to strip a concert experience to its birthday suit. We have a performer in their most vulnerable state, an audience, and communal activities for all! Nothing will be handled but good vibes.

Remember that when you come to a fmly event, you represent fmly. To those of you who come with substances please keep it to yourself and don’t be the guy that ruins the day for everyone. This is a FREE DAY SHOW in a public environment. Come on time because it gets chilly late in the day!
and of course BYOI (bring your own instruments):

There will be group jamming throughout the day. Bring your instruments and/ or whatever you have lying around your house. Washboards and tambourines encouraged.

The performances we are aware of include:
BATTLEHOOCH
Insects vs. Robots
Spring Queen
Jack Littman
Gabriela Maia (Static Crow)
Gray Tolhurst
Romulus
Presstones
Jules Verne
Moses Campbell
THINGS
The Magic Johnson
Little Spoon Desserts Truck will also be swinging by.

Downloads from some of the bands and video from the last Thank you, Come Again after the jump.

fmly events tonight

Hey, so tonight is a rare occasion where we have an event on both coasts – the best coast and the right coast, can you guess which is which?

In Los Angeles is the FMLY ride with the homies Professor Calculus, Insects vs Robots (next time) and Restavrant. You can read more about that awesome party of a day ‘n’ night right here. In Brooklyn, FMLY’s Philip Seymour Hoffman will be playing a set of new tunes off the forthcoming The Lighthouse Itself Is The Rocket (Breakfast of Champs) with our good pals Total Slacker who we caught last night at the Cake Shop. If you’re in the city, head over to the Charleston in Williamsburg tonight at 8:30. We know nothing about the place but regardless, good times are to be had with good frnds! See you somewhere.

Philip Seymour Hoffman – Firing Missiles At Christmas And Easter Island
Total Slacker – Psychic Mesa
Restavrant – Step Down
Professor Calculus – Stab Alley Remix

taking to the streets

The time is upon us. Tomorrow night grab your bike, boombox, booze and bounce to the first FMLY TEST RIDE. We are so excited to join the LA bike scene and hope we can bring something new to the role. This is the first music centric ride with a different band at each spot. We have a very limited amount of FMLY babyface spoke cards for y’all.

The first stop Restavrant will be rocking their own style of fast paced dirty freak folk.
Three and a half miles later Professor Calculus will unleash the fury. You can download their first album for free here. We’ll also be grubbing on the Nom Nom Truck at this stop.
There is more! Be prepared for an epic ending at a secret location with Funderstorm!

fmly prsnts: test ride

We are pleased to present our first LA party ride on November 7th. This is a westside ride with live music at every stop including Professor Calculus, Restavrant and one more pal TBA. We will also have 50 giant baby face spoke cards to give away. Just because CRANK MOB is on hiatus doesn’t mean the Crankmobments don’t apply, so here they are for those who aren’t familiar.

THE TEN CRANKMOBMENTS!
1. HAVE FUN – That’s is why we’re here! Let’s make sure that we can keep having fun by paying attention to the rest of these points.
2. BE SAFE – We don’t want anyone to get hurt, that includes you. If you or your bike are in no condition to ride, don’t ride.
3. BE RESPECTFUL – Respect the people around you and be aware of what you’re doing. Respect yourself and don’t get hurt. Respect the places we go to so that we can come back next month.
4. BE RESPONSIBLE – Your actions have consequences. They also reflect on the entire group so please be smart. If you spot anyone being unsafe or disrespectful, call them out on it.
5. COMMUNICATE – Call out hazards in the road. Call out the next turn. Call out if you’re slowing, stopping or starting to go. Call out everything.
6. PASS IT ON – If you hear someone calling something out, repeat it to make sure everyone hears.
7. LEAVE NO TRACE – Clean up your litter. Let’s leave this place like we were never here.
8. HOLD YOUR LINE – Watch where you’re going and don’t weave recklessly through the crowd. If you need to stop, slowly make your way to the right side of the road where stopping is safe.
9. STAY RIGHT – Leave the left lane open for passing cars. Please don’t ride into oncoming traffic.
10. SLOW DOWN – The party is right here, not up there somewhere. Stay with us and follow the ride leaders. They know where we’re going.
11. HAVE F.U.N. – Cuz it’s worth saying twice!

Whaaaat, I guess it has already been a year since we partied last CMJ with DD/MM/YYYY, Rumspringa, The Hood Internet, Ninjasonik and more of our homies in Brooklyn…but we’re back and ready to kick some ass. This time, we’re doing shit a bit differently and showing the Lower East Side what’s up. Don’t worry Bushwick, we’ll be in you like swine flu and killin’ it the rest of the week!

This year we’re doing things a little different and bringing Los Angeles to New York as well as sprinkling the night with some good pals from Baltimore, Boston by way of Toronto and of course, Brooklyn.

This is night one, our official CMJ Showcase.
Part two are guerrilla shows throughout the week to be announced sporadically.
Night three is the raddest fucking duplex party of the fall.
