If there’s an active cassette player in the house then EASYBOY’s Friends needs to be in that. Eric Farber, one-half of the already epic Truman Peyote, has been cranking out solid hits and remixes making sure to hold his own strongly up in Toronto. We’ve been flying the Easyboy flag good and strong for a while now, and are stoked to say that you can catch Easyboy at SXSW’s first taste of FMLY’s Thank You Come Again on the afternoon of March 20. He totally rawked it at our CMJ show in October. Spooky Town has been super rad to put Friends online for a free download, but I recommend purchasing it as well!

So proud of Chaz (Toro y Moi), I’ve heard nothing but raves for his performances on this Islands tour! Going to go check him out tonight (haven’t seen him since August) and give him the Mirror Universe Tapes pound that I’m sure exists, right? If you haven’t been laying in dreams since Toro y Moi fell from heaven, here are a few tunes to rub those erogenous zones the right way. And speaking of Mirror Universe, they’re releasing a rad compilation on December 5 to raise money for an all ages venue in Charleston, South Carolina – but I’ll have more info on that in a couple of weeks. Expect to hear new tunes from FMLY favs EASYBOY, Tan Dollar and Philip Seymour Hoffman on the tape.
Toro y Moi – Blessa
Toro y Moi – 109
Washed Out – Feel It All Around (Toro y Moi remix)

Breakfast of Champs is a sweet new Jamaica Plains-based haven for bedroom players to release their tunes on 7″ and cassette tape; think Mexican Summer with less weed, Woodsist with more-fi and the kickass of Mirror Universe with the collectivity and bond of Underwater Peoples. Just wanted to give a heads up, expect to catch a Truman Peyote split 7″ with Turtle Ambulance in the near future as well as a cassette from Psychedelic Family. Other exciting news is that FMLY alumni Philip Seymour Hoffman and EASYBOY (among others) will also be dropping cassettes via Champs either late this year or early next – add the ChampSpace to keep up to date! This is so exciting, can’t wait to see what these dudes do with 2010.

Turtle Ambulance – Bueno Pues (download plates)

Whaaaat, I guess it has already been a year since we partied last CMJ with DD/MM/YYYY, Rumspringa, The Hood Internet, Ninjasonik and more of our homies in Brooklyn…but we’re back and ready to kick some ass. This time, we’re doing shit a bit differently and showing the Lower East Side what’s up. Don’t worry Bushwick, we’ll be in you like swine flu and killin’ it the rest of the week!
This year we’re doing things a little different and bringing Los Angeles to New York as well as sprinkling the night with some good pals from Baltimore, Boston by way of Toronto and of course, Brooklyn.
This is night one, our official CMJ Showcase.
Part two are guerrilla shows throughout the week to be announced sporadically.
Night three is the raddest fucking duplex party of the fall.
WE ALSO HAVE A LIMITED AMOUNT OF FMLY SHIRTS FOR SALE. GET IN TOUCH IF YOU WANT ONE.

I’ve been consistently dropping some EASYBOY around the blog when I can so it gives me great pleasure to announce that you can now physically own Friends – how rad is that! EASYBOY is the good homie Eric Farber who some of you might know as one-half of the Boston (by way of Jamaica Plains) psych-pop outfit Truman Peyote. “Crafting a kind of crooked ferris wheel ride, somewhere between sound-collage and bedroom pop” Eric not only successfully manipulates sweet melodies reminiscent of 90s jams (“The Shakes” is totally copping Sugar Ray) but changes the game of dynamics, lyrical delivery, sampling and expectations as we know it. Words becoming instruments becoming sounds becoming my thoughts – it’s all so over my head! Stitching seams between bedroom techno, beach-crunk-blunt-pop, button pressing and couch potato’ing come way too easy for the dude, kinda makes me feel like he’s hiding Zach Condon or more realistically Zach Hill in his weed-growing closet or something (dear mothers and law enforcement: it’s legal in Toronto). Though encouraged to listen straight through, there are undoubtedly multiple story lines cycling through Friends. “Markers,” “Chest Swimmers” and “Wrenchin’” brew up a batch of the most desirable vocal affectations and phatheartbeats while a parallel – and more realized yearning – narrative is told through “The Shakes,” “Mr. Patella” and “Cactus.” But what about “Sunny Day Garbage Pile,” “Beebugs” and “Slick Nap”? These establish the environment, the color created by light and the foundation which the tape sets its paws upon. FMLY is all about Friends and EASYBOY has arranged a collection of memories, metaphors and images to express what I’ve tried so hard to put into words this past year. Oh, and I apologize ahead of time to whatever larger label eventually gets a handle on Eric for ‘leaking’ half of this album – lets just call it a FMLY exclusive and say that I’m doing what I can to get these sounds out from my heart to yours. Fucking patriotic!
Friends dropped on cassette yesterday via Spooky Town Artifacts. $4 right here, 100 99 left. If it encourages you to pick this up, with every listen Friends takes further strides in changing my life for the better. Eric, I fucking love this – you’re the man!

With Light-Lightning out on Whitehaus Family Records and praise coming from P4k, My Old Kentucky Blog, Transparent, etc the buzz around Truman Peyote is getting pretty fucking exciting. While in Boston I caught FMLY’s Philip Seymour Hoffman playing a backyard show with Caleb’s other project Psychedelic Family and after returning to NY Eric emailed me his debut EASYBOY tape. Truman Peyote or not, I’m so stoked to see these dudes cause some wreckage in the next decade.
Heads up NY, Truman Peyote are playing their 100th show at Shea Stadium (moved from the Market Hotel) tomorrow night with Tayisha Busay, BLissed Out and more! See you there.
