Seams‘ video for “Glitch,” stitched together using footage from the public domain archives, seems to accentuate an impending doom due to our industrial reliance on computers. Yeah, we’re no worried about that one either. If you’re diggin’ these sounds, Seams has been ever so kind to let us download Juvenile Rush free on his bandcamp plus stems for the remixing heads out there. About a week ago I said I’d share his remix of Bibio’s “All The Flowers,” so here ya go. Seams would go really well in a live outdoor environment with Phaseone…damn, that’d be an attractive night. Throw some Dntel into that mix and well, I think I better keep the rest of that comment to myself.

Not like we have enough great stuff from Portland, OR (i.e. Menomena, the Decemberist, YACHT, etc.), I got the pleasure of coming across one of Obey Your Brain’s newer additions, What’s Up. At a first encounter in Austin’s SXSW, we got a little preview of this uncanny trio at an off-by thrift store show. There, they opened up for FMLY FRNDS dd/mm/yyyy and Reverse X-Rays plus more, but when they came on, Cameron and I got to groovin’. This is the experimental music that you so much need. It’s sort of the way you want to wake up in the morning and the way you want to live throughout the day. It keeps me up, like any upper cannot.
Being a short-lived band collectively (formed in early 2008), we see that they are already causing a riff in our music scene by joining a label alongside acts like WHY?, Dan Deacon, Dntel and more. The way they perform is also a sight to be seen. The bassist remains sturdy at his bass, while both the drummer and guitarist pull out arms from nowhere to play their synths. This only adds the best of textures to the sound, performing not only as a “rock group, but also a production entity.”
Lucky for us all, they’ve got a record on the way to debut titled Content Imagination which is due out on May 19th of this year. And here’s your sneak peak to the album!
Since Dntel’s last album, he’s been thinking of releasing some of his cuts he’s done in his earlier years (mid 1990s) that never made it out – a sweet and subtle compilation of some of his origins. On this three disc set, you can hear his inspirations of Aphex Twin, Mu-Ziq, and the more instrumental vibes he was into. Looking back on his past pays off for Mr. Tamborello cause it so surely became a 3-CD set, after some re-mastering of course.
