my HARD’s gone soft

We were required to shut down Hard Summer at The Forum last night by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. They declared the event a “hazard” after seeing concertgoers jumping from the balcony to the floor, along with numerous other potentially dangerous activities. The Inglewood Police Department backed the decision of the Fire Department and assisted in the clearance of the venue.

While we, the promoters, worked with the authorities to consider other options to continue the concert, ultimately they made the decision based on the safety of the concertgoers. We are happy to report that there were no major injuries.

We are offering refunds to all concertgoers.

anticipation...

anticipation...

The last words said by Hard Officials after a heart wrenching disappointment – HARD was officially shut down by the Los Angeles Fire Department all before midnight.

As I made my way unto the night and into Inglewood for LA’s HARD SUMMER FEST, I could feel the good vibes waving in the air. Candy bracelets here, and fury boots there. The creators of HARD Fest have really built a strong community of loyal fans.

I circled the Forum on foot three to four times, finding lines and lines of people waiting to get in. Finally, I got to will call to pick up my tickets. Now, the wait to get in. In the crowds of lines that didn’t seem to be moving, I suddenly see 50-60 fans  jolt in blurred figures right past me yelling, “RUSH!” They took down one of the fences and bum-rushed the security for a quick and easy way in (I was too slow to react with them).

After an hour, “YES I’M IN. Wait, I missed Crystal Castles?” “No worries, but where’s the music? No one is dancing, everyone’s a bit uneasy, how do I get down to the floor?” -thoughts that crossed my mind after two hours of waiting for Chromeo to come on.

In those few hours, I saw how this night folded out…more after the jump

Anamanaguchi Make Pitchfork

FMLY FRNDS Anamanaguchi made Pitchfork last week, which may not seem like a big deal…but it is. Ours boys are now the third chiptune artist(s) to make P4k, the first being Crystal Castles and the second being Wham City’s Adventure. A major public triumph for 8bitcollective, Normative and 8bitpeoples it’s pretty exciting to see Luke and Peter chillin’ on Pitchfork – despite my personal quarrels with the site. Check out the real deal and give the post more hits here.

New York, Pulsewave is February 28 at The Tank. THAT IS THIS WEEKEND. All info is here and in the flyer below. If you can’t make it there will be a record release party at The Studio at Webster Hall March 6. Dawn Metropolis out on iTunes, LP and CD March 3.

LOVEPUMP UNITED

In honor of the Lovepump United showcase on October 9th with Genghis Tron and HEALTH, I would like to talk a little bit about a label that has brought us so much. With four years under their belt, they have managed to bring us some of the newest, most creative music around. They are home to such noise gems as AIDS Wolf, PRE, HEALTH as well as Indian Jewelry, Clipd Beaks, Genghis Tron, and Crystal Castles. This is a roster that is hard to come by where every single band has something amazing to it; from Genghis Tron’s epic fast paced journeys to songs that make you want to hit the dance floor like Crystal Castles. They also have a great collection of vinyl for sale on their website some of which your collection may not do with out. Personally I will be buying some HEALTH vinyl today. Lovepump United will be celebrating their 20th release on October 14th with Genghis Tron’s Board Up The House Remixes, Vol. 2 LP.

Do you want to go to The LPU showcase on October 9th? I have 5 pairs of tickets to give away! Just for you! All you have to do is email me at cameron@thefmly.com and tell me what Lovepump United’s first release was.

What’s The Haps NYC?

Yo yo yo NYC! WHAT IS UP!
The city is warming up even if it does look like shit outside, but with that new Meals song that Cameron posted, my cloudy skies are f’sho breaking into summer showers of light. We’ve just got some more news in about college shows happening at NYU and The Sidewalk in the next couple of weeks.

April 3rd at NYU are El-P, Crystal Castles and The Cool Kids.

Fun fact: The Cool Kids listen to Vampire Weekend. So do I?

TONIGHT at The Sidewalk Cafe is Wizard Rock Night (all songs influenced by Harry Potter).
Wizard Rock Night:
8pm Catchlove
9pm The Moaning Myrtles
10pm The Whomping Willows
11pm The Malfoys

Monday at 6:30, The Dodos will play a free show at Soundfix Records.

NYC Show News

Forgive me if any of this information is incorrect – I’ve just waited 40 minutes for a subway, had a bit to drink and danced for hours at Studio B to Health and Crystal Castles. In the news…

Columbia has announced their annual spring concert, this year it will be The National and Grizzly Bear. As a plus and minus, “The Bwog” has claimed that from a very official anonymous source they have heard the concert will take place indoors (laaaaaaaame) for $5 (tight!!). If you were at the annual Fall concert with Vampire Weekend and Clipse, that’s what’s in store – good bands, shitty obnoxious Justice obsessed DJ as filler.

If you’ve been in NY for a while then you should be familiar with the McCarren Park Pool, a legendary historical pool that has been empty for a couple of decades. Well…the pool is being filled but this hasn’t stopped the concert flow! M.I.A. and Holy Fuck have signed on as the first confirmed acts this summer to take place on June 6. Tickets go on sale March 29.

Goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow.
