cop magnet is…maxwell velocity

Donning his laptop like Thor’s hammer, Cop Magnet Is…Maxwell Velocity gives a small peek at what’s to come this year from the mind of Cop Magnet. Seriously, this dude drops non-stop hits. Hitting the future of mainstream pop music before it happens, we expect some ludicrous shit in the near future like a tape on Mirror Universe and a way too legit Young Money megaremixtape. Pick up the tape over at BoC records, and to celebrate we’re posting a Cop Magnet jam that was literally made yesterday. Can’t wait to put this on repeat driving to SXSW.

fmly night is tomorrow

Our New York events are few and far between, so make sure to come through to Surreal Estate tomorrow night for a psych wave dance party with our brochillerz in space Truman Peyote, Many Mansions, Cop Magnet, Max Alper, and Philip Seymour Hoffman! Here’s a map! PSH and Cop Magnet collab’d a few nights ago on a track, “Bros For Heroin”, that you can peep below. Shit sounds like some of that Power106, where hip hop lives! New Truman Peyote vinyl will be on sale as well as the Breakfast of Champs catalogue and a couple of FMLY shirts that we have left.

tune of the night

We foresee a future in which man is freed from useless chains, to realize a plenitude of individual gifts, in necessary unpredictability, spontaneity and resplendent anarchy. Until then, without surrender or rest, in community of feeling with those who thirst for better life, without fear of set-backs, in encouragement or persecution, we shall pursue in joy our overwhelming need for liberation.
-Paul-Émile Borduas, Refus Global (1948)

Cop Magnet seriously keeps the juices flowing, the orange trees growing, and this site in a devastated mourning between tracks. Thrown out last night via the Cop Magnet MySpace is a new jam slash remix on my favorite tune of the decade, Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” feat Alicia Keys. However, this scenario brings us Cop Magnet’s “I’m Higher State of Mind” feat Philip Seymour Hoffman making this oversexed duo Philip Seymour Hoffmagnet…or Copffman? Let’s not get too Martin Scorsese right before Thanksgiving. This one brings together Boston and New York for a sweet lil’ collab that we’re happy to bring to you.

alright, maybe tune of the decade was a bit too far…

Remember when I said that We All Have Hooks For Hands came and played in my apartment? Here are some photos (above & after the jump) taken by Cop Magnet and the band, way sweet videos coming soon!

We All Have Hooks For Hands – Elvis “MF” Christ

Unrelated, I just watched Gigantic on Cameron’s instant Netflix account (thanks for the password, dude) and although the entire film was cute, warm, and full of heart-wrenching Zooey Deschanel moments I’ve gotta give huge props to the soundtrack. I never thought that I’d see the day when Animal Collective rounds out the final scene in a film and upon hearing “Did You See The Words” from the Feels era come in during the last few shots I was not only overcome with aural delight but offered a rejuvenating hope for something I can’t quite put my finger on. Right now I’m just way enthused that this lil’ gem was picked over the more surfaced tunes, so fresh. If you’re in the mood for one of the cuter alternative romantic comedies and have Netflix (or are pretty clever at finding movies online) Gigantic is def worth checkin’ out.

shazaaaam

Super pumped on this new track from Cop Magnet that we’re premiering right hurr right noww. Taking a step back from ‘in your face beats’ and a hyphy ‘tude to say what’s up to a bit more minimalist enterprises and thought provoking landscapes, Cockp Magnet’s Alex Brett is getting a bit more adult on us. Now I’m a fan of both sides and would love to see these lines blur, maybe toss in a little meaningful sample here and there to remind us of the simple things. Lets see where his debut tape on Breakfast of Champs takes us…again, I’m super pumped. This track kills it and the dude isn’t even old enough to drink yet!
