As usual, far too much semi-illegal fun was had yesterday within the walls of the Indie studios. For the uninformed, I host a weekly radio show with Danny Sway called Public Education on indie1031.com. We keep it fresh but not entirely unheard. Join us every Sunday from 6-8 pm. Check out yesterday’s playlist and download a portion after the jump.

it’s always nice waking up in the clouds
As if ya’ll didn’t already know how we felt about our Brooklyn beat guerilla, cloud., the man went ahead and made a new beat tape so that we could fall in love all over again! Self Law takes cloud. into some of his most electronic territory yet; denser samples, more lush composition, and a more particular taste for transitions. From sounding like a Daft Punk gone hip-hop production (hear: “New Hustle”) to finding the organic rhythm in the day to day (hear: “Incidence”) and just being straight up cloud. (hear: “Rewritten”) we have yet again another beat tape to bump in the car stereo, on the iPod while riding the train, and some phat tunes to blast at the next house party. Our heartbeat has been captured, remastered, and follows whatever BPM cloud. lays down on his MPC. Download the entire beat tape for free (optional payment for physical copy) right here. Sample mentioned tracks below.

Pimp Steak out now

Big ups to our ex-Dean & Franklin crew Mr. Cracktacular, Moody Majical and Stevie Weavie for allowing FMLY to PRSNT their eviction party. We brought the Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Manhattan masses DJ sets by Mr. Cracktacular, DJ Tanner aka Your Majesty, Ryder Ripps, the recently blogged about ECK$ and a stunning beat-set by our boy cloud.. The dance with grind, shake and pop, the smell was green, and the cops were absent – all in all it may have been on of the most epic parties I’ve ever been to…and I never even left the basement! Pictures after the jump.

40oz exhibits some of cloud.’s finest work and it would be a crime to not mention the very appropriate artwork done for the project. You can catch cloud.’s evolved rhythms below via imeem and head over to his

Pimp Steak, no worries, it’s free

Head down to the Delancey to have your balls rocked off with an amazing line up including Team Robespierre, FMLY friends Ninjasonik, and the newest addition to the FMLY Cloud. Cloud is an amazing beat maker out of Brooklyn who puts mainstream producers to shame. If you like what you hear, check this out. The show is $10 and doors open at 9. Get your dancing shoes on and get crazy.
It is euphoria when you listen to a hip-hop classic (ie. Digable Planets Blowout Comb, A Tribe Called Quest Midnight Marauders, The Pharcyde Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde or of course Wu-Tang’s Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers). Well during my first listen to cloud.’s most recent, Pimp Steak, I experienced that same euphoria – this album isn’t going to leave my iPod, my playlists or my car for years. Yeah, that’s a bold statement, but I haven’t heard beat conducting this impressive since Dilla’s Donuts – and as on par and comparable to [in terms of quality, not aesthetic, output or the like] Madlib’s Beat Konducta volumes. A great vibe from Pimp Steak is that cloud. is offering the album FOR FREE via a MySpace blog and only asking for donation. Get it here. If you’re in NY, cloud. is conveniently playing a show Monday at Glasslands, an art gallery opening on Friday and you can rest assured knowing that he’ll be playing at a FMLY event asap.
myspace praise:
“Yo Cloud man, the more I listen to Pimp Steak, the more it souinds like an underground classic!
On the real, one of the illest instrumental beat compilations i’ve heard ever!”
“j dilla changed my life”
“nothing like waking up in the clouds”
Alright, so I’m not great at picking out quotes, but you get it, now go get it. While you’re at it, pick up his beat tape Ice Cream Cola right hurr. Both are must haves and both are free, but suggested donation.
