where did you come from

Free Kisses plays Shea Stadium in Brooklyn tonight for what I’m pretty sure is her first time trekking into the States from Toronto with music in mind. We’ve put her on the spot a few times here and there for good reason, her sounds can infiltrate your good spirits and wrap them in a jacket to keep them from catching a cold. Her voice can lay a jacket eternally for your footsteps to keep your shoes, feet, and socks from absorbing the ice cold puddles which impede a day’s path. Karen is a friend through her sounds, and thankfully a super friendly person that loves some good conversation. Playing with her tonight are Shark?, Byrds of Paradise, and FMLY’s own Philip Seymour Hoffman. Shea Stadium is 20 Meadow St in Brooklyn and the show starts at 8pm.

a message from bridgetown records

The homie Kevin Greenspon over at Bridgetown Records just put out a fresh batch of tunage to turn the heat up on Spring, here’s the hot word:

BYODeath Snowy Eyes (cassette+download) – fast, lo-fi bedroom pop punk from a 33-year old banker who’s been heavily involved with booking DIY shows in Long Beach for years, finally getting his first proper release. Cloud Nothings fans won’t be disappointed.

Kevin Greenspon In Serial (cd) – a collection of a 4 cassette series released in Spring 2009. A 13 song / 75 minute rollercoaster ride of soft pop melodies and electronics.

Hedia Apnoea (cd) – incredibly beautiful, organic, and moving ambient compositions for classical string instruments recorded and arranged in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Kevin Greenspon Corridor (cd) – limited tour CD of the new album on Leftist Nautical Antiques. A companion to the full-length on Family Time Records. Intimate and personal arrangements of guitar, electronics, manipulated cassettes, and field recordings.

No Paws (no lions) No Ghosts (cd/cassette) – the Family Time Records crew have finally realized their best recordings yet with a new lineup. Pure bedroom pop with boy/girl vocals. Featuring current and ex-members of Trudgers, Norse Horse, Blessure Grave, and more.

Cloud Nothings Turning On (cd reissue) – now in it’s third edition, the lovable songs on this debut album get slightly updated packaging. Catchy, nostalgic and FUN.

As usual, Btown is keeping the arts affordable, $5 each or the entire batch for $20 in the states and $24 international. And in the meantime you can download the Spring sampler right here. Here’s a new Cloud Nothings jam to get you in the mood!

tune of the night

“We’re trapped in the belly of this horrible machine and the machine is bleeding to death. The sun is fallen down, and the billboards are all ‘leering,’ and the flags are all dead, at the top of their poles.”
-Godspeed You! Black Emperor, “The Dead Flag Blues”
