aria just shot this one over to me, and eric really mauled the tune in this truman peyote remix. it’s beautiful, like a melting wax sculpture or any image on glitterguts.
The time has come to follow last year’s Cities vs. Submarines (free download), produced by Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu, and Railcars does not in the slightest bit disappoint. Spewing some Bay area art rock on the faces of the young, Cathedral With No Eyes brings more well thought out distortion and clever transitioning to the table which creates a continuous rhythm making CWNE one psychotic fucking song. Of course if you go way of the vinyl then you’ve gotta flip the record, so by default it can become two. Finding inspiration in the strangest of places Aria Jalali has centered this record around the life of Edmund the Martyr, a King of 9th century East Anglia. The tracks recount his life, succession to the throne as a youngin’, conquests, and finally suffering at the hands of vikings and death by their arrows! While CvS will always be one of my favorite and most well-played albums CWNE has a dense quality to it, like peering into a swamp; it’s not safe but god help me if I don’t want to dip my leg in there.
The release date is October 6 via Stumparumper and the first 100 who pre-order the album ($10) will receive an exclusive, hand-numbered, pre-order-only 8.5″x11″ Railcars poster and a 1″ pin featuring the album art. All pre-order folks will also be entered into a drawing for a test pressing of the album, that’s a pressing of only five! Pre-order and more info right here (then click merchandise). I’ve attached a brilliant and unofficial video for “Castles” above which is definitely one of my favorite jams of ‘09 and below you can download the first two tracks in their singular form. One day angels will masturbate to “passion of saint edmund (rebirth).”
remember, there’s only going to be 1000 of these babes pressed. and if you’re looking for a roomie in brooklyn, aria is moving to new yawk in 2010 – maybe we should have a fmly contest to see who can claim that beast of a man.
Aria Jalali is currently putting the final touches to Railcars‘ forthcoming album Cathedral With No Eyes. The album will see release online as well as on a limited pressing of 1000 12″ vinyl through Stumparumper Records.
Cathedral With No Eyes is an album we’ve been anticipating since last year’s Cities vs Submarines EP (download) produced by Xiu Xiu’s Jamie Stewart. Railcars will play several shows this summer in San Francisco and hit the road on US and European land late this year and early next. Tour dates and tracklisting after the jump.
Aria just sent me the latest from his experimental-pop outfit, Railcars, and I need to express my appreciation for his willingness towards new sound. For reference, the quoted text below comes from previous posts we’ve made on Railcars. “Life Of St Edmund (Ponds)” begins with a dreamy silent narrative between body and sound, the sounds of rocks skipping and splashing into the water set a vast scenery that sets up location and context for “CASTLES.” Jumping right into the shit, “CASTLES” meets old Railcars fans with more intensity and drive for expression while new ears will be undoubtedly pleased at what they’ve just stumbled across.
As I’ve stated in the past on both FMLY and iheartcomix, I’m a big fan of Railcars and Aria Jalali’s unique voice in the Bay Area’s experimental electronic / art pop music scene – especially considering the intense focus on hyphy music…or at least mine.
Think Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Swan Lake, ex-Frog Eyes) with a more awesome setup that includes some electronics…and maybe on acid just to peak your curiosity.
These tracks are the first and second off of Cathedral With No Eyes, Railcars’ Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu) produced album due out, hopefully, this summer. The entire record is one track, a neat approach to contemporary aesthetic and unique to the genre.
Also, if you haven’t already then feel free to download Railcars’ latest EP, Cities vs Submarines, for free right here courtesy of Aria. CvS was recorded in the basement of Xiu Xiu frontman, Jamie Stewart, who produced the EP as well. Railcars is currently working on Cathedral With No Eyes with Stewart as well, an album that I’m certainly anticipating. If you’d call yourself a vagrant for Railcars, then make sure to download their live set from Paris and peep the vids.
