I don’t know about you, but I’m about to Craigslist Rideshare my way down to Maryland. Girl Talk has yet to sample Blink-182, and my speculation is that it’s because he holds them as high as we do. If there’s any chance that Blink and Gillis can team up it’s here, and we’re not missing it. Girl Talk x Barker FOR THE WIN!

WARREN, NJ, June 24, 2009 Speculation and predictions that have filled blogs and discussion boards can be put to rest. The Virgin Mobile Festival is returning, but with a catch. It’ll be free.
Virgin Mobile USA, creator of one of the largest and most critically acclaimed music festivals in the U.S., announced today that it would host the 2009 Virgin Mobile Festival on Sunday, August 30, at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md., free of charge. All tickets will be given away, and previous Virgin Mobile Festival ticket buyers and Virgin Mobile customers will have the first crack at securing the 35,000 tickets.
The move celebrates both a giveback to music fans in a bad economy as well as an effort to solicit donations to homeless youth agencies in need around the country via The RE*Generation, Virgin Mobiles charitable arm. Most sponsors, including premier sponsor Kyocera Communications, will be building awareness for the cause in their marketing efforts around the festival.
“Instead of focusing on layoffs or the state of the economy, we want to focus on concrete ways to provide assistance to those in need”, said Dan Schulman, CEO, Virgin Mobile USA. “People need outlets to both lend a helping hand and to escape and relax, for free, even if just for one day. We want to throw some good news in the mix”.
The 2009 Virgin Mobile FreeFest will be hosted on the beautiful, 40 wooded acres of Merriweather Post Pavilion. The grounds and facilities of Merriweather will be expanded to accommodate the multiple stage and dance tent set-up from prior Virgin Mobile Festivals. Those scheduled to appear at this years FreeFest include Weezer, Blink-182, Franz Ferdinand, and Public Enemy, Jet, The National, Girl Talk, The Bravery, The Hold Steady, St. Vincent, Wale, and Taking Back Sunday, as well as dance tent favorites that include HOLY FUCK, Pete Tong, Danny Howells and Lee Burridge.
A very odd lineup, peep the website for more info.

Big ups to Columbus, Ohio for whatever it is that’s going on to inspire these killer tracks from Abrahammer. It’s a bummer that Wordpress will only let me upload one track, but fortunately it has Lil’ Wayne and Blink-182 so all is smiles! The rest of his tracks are absolutely fantastic, some of the best pop mashemups I’ve heard…and yes, there is a Rugrats theme one too. Peep hisSpace here.
I’m not going to question why Crystal Antlers are on Carson Daly or why Blink is spelled Blind, but Blink-182 will be on Leno both Monday and Tuesday. Tour dates have also been announced with Weezer, Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, All-American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday, Asher Roth, and Chester French.
Actually, this news sucks. Not only will all of these shows be intolerable to sit through – besides Weezer – but Blink isn’t even coming to Los Angeles or New York. We say this all of the time, but fuck Live Nation. Check out when Mark, Tom, and Travis are not coming to your city here. Blink is back, but who will be there to notice?
if you haven’t picked up this tune everywhere else online, here’s what the new Blink sounds like.

We talk about 8-bit tunes a lot on this site, most of them falling under the category of bitpop. For reference, here’s the Wiki definition of what bitpop is.
Bitpop is a type of electronic music, where at least part of the music is made using old 8-bit computers, game consoles and little toy instruments. Popular choices are the Commodore 64, Game Boy, Atari 2600 and Nintendo Entertainment System.
Everyone seemed to love that Blink-182 vs Jay-Z mash a few days back so I thought I’d put together a taste of BlinkBit! To give you some personal history, Blink-182 is my favorite band of all-time and even though Animal Collective, Daft Punk, and Black Moth Super Rainbow among others are the loves of my life no one can ever touch the holy grail trio that is Blink. This holds true for a good part of us FMLY bloggers and if you’re “feeling this” the same way then rad.
On Buddha, Blink unveiled their cover of the Screeching Weasels’ “The Girl Next Door” which is definitely a favorite tune of ours. Malaysian 8-bit dance party, mikrochip no32, has been kind enough to hit us up with a cover of Blink’s “The Girl Next Door” that I can’t stop rocking out to. Listen to this and more rad mikrochip no32 tracks via 8bitcollective.

“Feeling This,” the first single off of Blink’s last album was definitely one of the hottest music videos I had ever seen at the time – I’m sure a few girls threw themselves in jail to get a taste of that. The UK’s Breakbeat Heartbeat has provided an awesome RMX/CVR of Blink’s “Feeling This” and has even more great tunes on his page which I highly recommend checking out.

And finally, I present to you “The Rock Show” like you’ve never heard it before. Big ups to ColeTrain for putting together this totally awesome remix/cover, we can’t get enough of it!

There’s a show on BBC called “All The Small Things” with very interesting taste for content and approach to delivery, I’m really not sure whether to make it as genius or awful…but it’s English so I’ll go for genius. Blink’s “All The Small Things” and the All American Reject’s “Swing Swing” are after the jump. You know you want to see it.
Blink-182 vs Jay-Z – What’s My Age Again (warning: this “mashup” is not that tight)

D.A.D. is our pal Zach Robinson from Los Angeles who is currently residing in Chicago. Not to pry open the history books, but he’s been a part of our development with his work in some of our favorite LA bands such as The Irregars, Dracula Mountain and is responsible for the only reason I’ll go into the valley, Zach Shaque. Along the lines of his Super Mash Bros, D.A.D. catches on quick when it comes to spot-on remixes and mash-ups. He’s only got a few tracks out there, but I’m pumped to hear more as they come in. “Pre-gaming” is a personal favorite, but I swoon over anything with Blink-182 in it. Head over to D.A.D.’space to hear a killer remix of Yelle’s “Ce Jeu.”
Videos of The Irregars and Dracula Mountain live, after the jump.

When it comes to our Los Angeles pals I feel like a mother, I’m just so proud of the music that our FRNDS are making. Santa Cruz/S.F. transplants Koalacaust are no exception, having played with Mischief Brew, Paul Baribeau, and Andrew Jackson Jihad these young men are not only living the anti-folk dream but making some of the dankest tunes around. In March they’ll release their full-length and FMLY has a track to premiere to the world, “Indian Summer.”
I’ve always described Koalacaust as the combination of Blink-182 and Wolf Parade with an accordion; that sound is present on “Indian Summer” but I can’t vouch for the entire album. What I can vouch for, is that the entire album is going to be stunning and is way up there on our FMLY anticipation list. Expect more coverage as we near the release date. Koalacaust will be in Los Angeles mid-April to open our night at Out of Asia with Ninjasonik and Japanther, more bands to be announced. The ‘caust also played our FMLY Backyard Extravaganza in August. More tour dates, including the MOCA, on the Koalaspace. Video of Koalacaust playing “Resolutions” at The Smell after the jump.

BLINK-182 ARE REUNITING. I don’t even know how to express myself at the moment. Read.
edit: MTV fixed their site, Blink is not reuniting, they’re only presenting an award together. But that’s still a breakthrough! And the Coachella rumors are entertaining.
edit’s edit: yeah, they’re reuniting
Don’t know what to do for New Years in Los Angeles? Not like anything will top our ‘08 party with The Histories, Nephews, [Post-foetus] and Your Majesty, but here are several options.

In addition to these, there will also be a Travis and DJ AM show, the first since their plane crash. If you missed Mark Hoppus’ blog post on his site, himynameismark.com, he let fans know that he, Travis and Tom have hung out for the first time since Feb ‘05 and buried the hatchet. Leaving an air of possibility for a reunion, Mark mentioned that the idea has not been brought up so there is no way to tell. Unfortunately when blatantly asked by paparazzi in Calabasas, Travis said “no.” When I spoke to Tom last October at the MTVu Woodie Awards he told me that Blink didn’t know what they were doing, they were immature and he even went as far as to tell me never to listen to them again. When Mark appeared at the MTVu Woodie Awards he casually brought up Blink as if they were still around. Who knows…as long as they’re hanging out I’m happy.
The 2008 MTVu Woodie Awards are upon us and it’s time to vote. This year’s nominations include No Age, Simian Mobile Disco, Vampire Weekend, Santogold and more. You have until the end of the month and then some so there’s no rush, voting goes down here. The video above is me, my roommate, some friends and some strangers on stage at last year’s Woodie Awards with Santogold, Spank Rock, Benny Blanco and XXXChange for Spank Rock’s “Rick Rubin,” I later introduced The Shins and met Annie Lennox as well as Tom DeLonge…the Woodies are an interesting night.
