hey, you’re in

New tune from DJDT to celebrate the holidays and kick off the night. Hitting way different sounds than the beats we’ve become accustomed to, this DJDT bounce is def one for the clubs and deejay sets. Hit up FMLY FEST on Monday to catch DJDT in action, and peep the vid from FMLY’s Beach Dazed after the jump. Happy holidays.

surf’s up, beach dazed!

The events which transpired on Saturday were incredibly important to our development as a FMLY. All involved pushed to the limit and certainly over the edge, those who attended were fantastic and respectful guests, and the sounds that were shared thread so deeply into our understanding of community rhythm it is RIDIC! Endless thank yous go out to RipLee, ‘REALLY, very’, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Best Coast, Haim, [Post-foetus], DJDT, Pizza!, Evan Voytas, Busdriver, Voxtrot, and RJD2 – without your contributions towards our shared experiences the energy created Saturday could not have been accomplished.

A collage of unified movement was arranged by DJDT (pictured and video’d above), throwback sing-a-longs were dished out by Voxtrot’s lack of a keyboard leaving them no choice but to hit up the early EPs, and with [Post-foetus] came the attention and silence of a night for no waves can command more entrancement of an audience than Will Weisenfeld’s imagination…and more than a few jokes about how shit sucks dick.

My inability to stop moving left me catching bits and pieces of the day, but my high point was certainly watching Evan Votyas manage his cassettes directly in the sun followed by Best Coast regulating the sweet summer vibes indoors. Big ups to the Ice Cream Man for capturing so many hearty faces, Noah Diamond for recording the most epic DJDT video, and every supporter of Saturday.

We’ll be posting more photos and video as they appear, but for the moment here is a quick visual recap of Beach Dazed. Thanks for the awesome experience. For more photos and probably some of you and your pals, please refer to the Ice Cream Man, No Electro and King Diamond Kid.

beach dazed set times

We’re all on the verge of tears here waiting for Saturday, so make sure to get to Out of Asia early and enjoy our sunshine festival complete with pools and a great big fucking slip ‘n’ slide that will blow your mind among way more…like FREE ICE CREAM! Bring your swimsuit and towel, sunscreen it up, and don’t forget your sunglasses. On saturday the beach will be brought to you. Set times after the jump. Tickets are cheaper online than tomorrow at the door, buy them here.

Don’t forget, STUDENTS WITH A VALID ID GET IN FOR $20! Free ice cream, 15 bands, summertime activities and way more for $20? Dope. I remember when I caught Voxtrot at the Troub back in the day with Yellow Fever i had to drop $25+service fees, no more dude.

Addition: For those who dig pop tunes as much as we do, i’m sure you’ve heard Flo Rida’s “Right Round” more than a few times (we even blogged it). Anyways, our girl KE$HA is that hot female voice on the track and guess what…she’s playing Beach Dazed with her full band! Full band? Yeah, that includes a serious cutie on the Keytar as well as DJ Skeet Skeet on the tables. Other artists performing are rjd2, voxtrot, busdriver, djdt, [post-foetus], alligators, haim, railcars, best coast, evan voytas, pizza!, philip seymour hoffman, ‘REALLY, very’, your majesty, riplee + more!

Parking: We can’t figure out how to google map, so here’s our best effort. All is correct aside from parking on La Cienega Blvd. Do not park on La Cienega Blvd. All other blue portions, including La Cienega Pl, are totally chill and we’ll be able to fit most of ya in that square’d off region. Peep it!

Now follow us to the set times!

the new dynamic sound

I’m a sucker for a girl that knows her Alan Watts – coughmarniesterncough – so when a Los Angeles and New Yorker (like myself) messages me to take a peek at his tunes and drops some Wattsisms…FUCK YES. Evan Voytas is on some kind of tip that I haven’t gotten the memo on, he’s like Coconut Records for dudes (and their girl interests)! Don’t get me wrong, I dig Coconut Records but I’d never blast Nighttiming in the car like I’m doing with Evan’s tunes tonight. Our new Brodo Baggins has been featured on RCRD LBL along with our bestest bro Railcars, and like Railcars, you can catch Evan at our Beach Dazed event (RSVP) this Saturday. Download if you like shaking that ass to some summer’d out pop, or if you have synesthesia and want to see some dope colors. I’d also hope that by this point in our blogger-to-downloader-and-hopefully-reader relationship we have some trust established.

busdriver added to beach dazed

In case you haven’t heard by now – don’t ask me how you would find out – Busdriver has been added to our Beach Dazed event (flyer after the jump). No, he isn’t the secret headliner, he just wants in on the good times and we’re happy to see him again! If you were too dazed in December to remember, Busdriver played our Snow In LA event along with our FRNDS Daedelus, Haim, the Mae Shi, Fool’s Gold, and other dope folks. For those of you unfamiliar with Busdriver, he is one of Los Angeles’ most prolific hip-hop heads – you’ll probably recognize his song “Imaginary Places” from Tony Hawk’s Underground or his portion of “Where There’s A Will There’s A Whalebone” from Islands’ debut Return To The Sea (second rap verse, first belongs to Subtitle). All of his albums come highly recommended, we’ve been fans forevs and are super pumped to bring him in his speedo to Out of Asia. Purchase Jhelli Beam here.

And our secret special headliner will be announced this week. Maybe tomorrow, maybe Sunday…we’ll see how we feel in the morning. Don’t forget to buy your tickets here while they’re still $25.

Big ups to Alex Ito for this first edition of the Beach Dazed flyer. We’ve known Alex for about five years now and come August he’ll be joining me in New York while attending Pratt. And as you can see our FMLY baby is growing up, next thing you know it may be traversing space.

Aria Jalali is always down to party, and added to our outdoor stage are his projects Railcars and Micromagician. I really wish that Wordpress would let me upload longer tunes, because Micromagician’s “Gospel Girls” may just be my favorite song this year. Definitely check these projects out.

Railcars – Bohemia Is Without A Sea

Philip Seymour Hoffman has played some of our past events and was recognized as Indie 103.1’s artist of the week. His take on tribal-folk has certainly been an interesting development to keep track of in 2009 and we couldn’t be more pleased to bring him out to Los Angeles for Beach Dazed. Here’s his latest track “Spring Break 2011″ inspired by 2012 and taking as many drugs as possible until that fateful day.

voxtrot trots to los angeles

Voxtrot will be coming to Los Angeles on July 18 to play FMLY’s Beach Dazed along with some other homies that we adore. If you’re unfamiliar with Voxtrot the band has become a go-to name in the current Austin music scene and to critic acclaim is certainly a top popper on the indie charts.

On March 22 Voxtrotter Jared Van Fleet announced via Twitter that his days with the band are over, but we have given praise to his tough decision for this reason: when I spoke to Jared in 2007 regarding his solo project, Sparrow House, he noted that “Voxtrot has been my life for the past five months, so I haven’t had any time to make more of my own music.” We wish you the best Jared.

Being said, Voxtrot will appear at an Anamanaguchi show in NY for a DJ set on June 26 and then in LA for Beach Dazed on July 18.

Voxtrot – The Start of Something
Voxtrot – Fast Asleep

Sparrow House – Foxes (Sighing Like A Furnace)
and some bootlegs and rarities you may not have…

Voxtrot – Raised By Wolves (covered by The Oxford Blues Acapella Choir)
