“I’m just wondering if this is in fact the new paradigm. I’m just wondering if in fact the new music is just the old music again. And, if that in fact it would actually just be the end of music.”

“8-bit music is definitely the punk of electronic music.” – Ary Warnaar, Anamanaguchi

BWR TH NVSN is currently underway and to celebrate the homecoming of Luke, Ary and the ‘guchi bros I’ve arranged a lil’ mixtape for ya’ll with some of my favorite 8bit covers, tunes and a special track from Anamanaguchi. I’ve found that over the past few years many folks raging hard at Anamanaguchi shows, myself included, haven’t the slightest idea of what 8bit music is or even realize that there is such a larger picture – we just love what we hear and need more. For those who have heard these infectious sounds and are craving a fix, those who just came home from our show tonight or those who just love to fuck around with 8bit this is for you. By searching the blog you can see that I’ve put these together in the past hoping that one person out there finds something new to love, but with today’s collection I don’t think that’s an issue. Enjoy the hell out of these tunes, I rock hard to ‘em.

To celebrate, here’s a tune from the Anamanaguchi vault. It’s an old demo currently being revamped so look out for it at live shows and hopefully on their next release!

Anamanaguchi – Ferncliff (demo)

_____ of the night

“1500 hours of moving legobricks and take photos of them.”

I had such a jam I was feeling today and was super excited to post, but after seeing this you can imagine how anything would look rather pale in comparison.

weezin’ a lil’ 8bit

It has been quite the wait, and I’ve definitely heard Peter from Anamanaguchi go through at least an album’s worth of Weezer, but Weezer: The 8bit Album is finally here and even better, it’s free. DOWNLOAD!

Featuring regular FMLY stars Unicorn Dream Attack, Anamanaguchi, nordloef and other pals and strangers, The 8bit Album certainly holds its own but overall doesn’t differ as much as I’d like from the original tracks. Definitely worth the download for the old school Weezer fans out there, especially when the album rolls through Unicorn Dream Attack’s cover of “Jamie” off of the fan-compiled Purple Album.

And in case ya’ll haven’t already peeped this, Jay-Zeezer is dope. Not like that Jaydiohead joke. Again, it’s free. DOWNLOAD!

And what kind of Weezer enthusiast would I be without reminding every to download this Paper Route Gangstaz track. Possibly one of the best hip-hop songs of the past decade?

blink in eight bits

We talk about 8-bit tunes a lot on this site, most of them falling under the category of bitpop. For reference, here’s the Wiki definition of what bitpop is.

Bitpop is a type of electronic music, where at least part of the music is made using old 8-bit computers, game consoles and little toy instruments. Popular choices are the Commodore 64, Game Boy, Atari 2600 and Nintendo Entertainment System.

Everyone seemed to love that Blink-182 vs Jay-Z mash a few days back so I thought I’d put together a taste of BlinkBit! To give you some personal history, Blink-182 is my favorite band of all-time and even though Animal Collective, Daft Punk, and Black Moth Super Rainbow among others are the loves of my life no one can ever touch the holy grail trio that is Blink. This holds true for a good part of us FMLY bloggers and if you’re “feeling this” the same way then rad.

On Buddha, Blink unveiled their cover of the Screeching Weasels’ “The Girl Next Door” which is definitely a favorite tune of ours. Malaysian 8-bit dance party, mikrochip no32, has been kind enough to hit us up with a cover of Blink’s “The Girl Next Door” that I can’t stop rocking out to. Listen to this and more rad mikrochip no32 tracks via 8bitcollective.

“Feeling This,” the first single off of Blink’s last album was definitely one of the hottest music videos I had ever seen at the time – I’m sure a few girls threw themselves in jail to get a taste of that. The UK’s Breakbeat Heartbeat has provided an awesome RMX/CVR of Blink’s “Feeling This” and has even more great tunes on his page which I highly recommend checking out.

And finally, I present to you “The Rock Show” like you’ve never heard it before. Big ups to ColeTrain for putting together this totally awesome remix/cover, we can’t get enough of it!

Anamanaguchi Covers Wavves

Covered this track on a whim today. Wavves is a one-man noise/punk/bro from SD, so I went reallyreally raw on the mix and all that [Peter, Anamanaguchi]

New York blipstars Anamanaguchi answered the prayers we should have asked for by delivering a cover of Wavves‘ “So Bored.” Matching Nathan’s intensity and earning bonus points for creativity, Anamanaguchi have given us a must download that is certain to appease lo-fi and 8bit fans alike.

Don’t forget to peep and purchase the guchi bros’ latest release, Dawn Metropolis, here. If you’re new to the 8bit scene, I interviewed Anamanaguchi in March of ‘08 – check it out here and in advance I’m sorry for the awful editing and sound levels.
