Saturday start your day right. Grab some instruments, frisbee, ice block, dog, lover and head down to Mary Hotchkiss Park in Santa Monica for a day for chillin, cool peeps, new friends and great music. It’s time for the return of Thank you, Come Again in LA.
The purpose of this event is to strip a concert experience to its birthday suit. We have a performer in their most vulnerable state, an audience, and communal activities for all! Nothing will be handled but good vibes. Remember that when you come to a fmly event, you represent fmly. To those of you who do show up with substances please keep them to yourself, away from the group, and don’t be the one that ruins the day for everyone.

This is a slow ride so if you are new, don”t be afraid, we play nice and welcome everyone. We got postponed last weekend from the rain but weather is looking great so we are back with vengeance bringing the addition of The Entrance Band with us. Also joining us is Rumspringa, Insects vs. Robots, Kid Infinity, 60 Watt Kid and a ton of others.

Our monthly bike ride is back March 6th, bigger, better and more F.U.N. than ever. This month we will be having two meet ups. If you live on the Eastside of LA, you can meet at the corner of Spring and Cesar Chavez Downtown and if you live on the Westside you can meet at Cloverfield Park in Santa Monica. Both rides will be seeing some awesome bands while exploring different sides of the city before meeting up in the middle for far too much fun.
This month we are playing cowboys and indians so Eastsiders, put on your 10 gallon hat and finest boots; Westsiders, get your war paint on and the bows and arrows out of storage. There will be babyhead spoke cards as always. If you are a new rider, don’t be nervous, we’ll take it nice and slow. If you don’t have a bike, bring your skateboard, rollerblades, unicycle or whatever other self sustaining mode of transportation you have. Everyone is welcome!

Professor Calculus at the TEST RIDE (photo cred. LA TIMES)
So the TEST RIDES came and went. We had a lot of fun, saw a lot of great music, and had some unforgettable experiences. If you were at the last ride, you might want to check out the
LA Times article to see if you can spot yourself. Now, as the new year rolls in, it’s time for the FMLY RIDE to take over. Over the past year, I have seen so many new people start biking. Next year, bikes will take over, public domain will be reclaimed and humanity will emerge from the capitalist shell from which generations were born into.
The FMLY RIDE will take place on January 2nd which gives you the first to recover and gear up for round two. We will meet at the Albertson’s Parking lot on Ocean Park and Lincoln at 8 and ride at 9 exactly. You can check out a map here. This ride has some great surprises waiting at the end.
REMEMBER THE TEN CRANKMOBMENTS!
1. HAVE FUN – That’s is why we’re here! Let’s make sure that we can keep having fun by paying attention to the rest of these points.
2. BE SAFE – We don’t want anyone to get hurt, that includes you. If you or your bike are in no condition to ride, don’t ride.
3. BE RESPECTFUL – Respect the people around you and be aware of what you’re doing. Respect yourself and don’t get hurt. Respect the places we go to so that we can come back next month.
4. BE RESPONSIBLE – Your actions have consequences. They also reflect on the entire group so please be smart. If you spot anyone being unsafe or disrespectful, call them out on it.
5. COMMUNICATE – Call out hazards in the road. Call out the next turn. Call out if you’re slowing, stopping or starting to go. Call out everything.
6. PASS IT ON – If you hear someone calling something out, repeat it to make sure everyone hears.
7. LEAVE NO TRACE – Clean up your litter. Let’s leave this place like we were never here.
8. HOLD YOUR LINE – Watch where you’re going and don’t weave recklessly through the crowd. If you need to stop, slowly make your way to the right side of the road where stopping is safe.
9. STAY RIGHT – Leave the left lane open for passing cars. Please don’t ride into oncoming traffic.
10. SLOW DOWN – The party is right here, not up there somewhere. Stay with us and follow the ride leaders. They know where we’re going.
11. HAVE F.U.N. – Cuz it’s worth saying twice!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Epic Fest despite the weather. It was a super fun time and you guys made it really special. I love that the power going out on the block didn’t prevent anyone from having a great time. Sitting in a dark, candle filled room watching 60-Watt Kid play acoustic gave me warm fuzzy feelings and Tempo No Tempo’s cover of R. Kelley’s Ignition Remix was unforgettable. Next time you owe us the entire trapped in the closet series! Professor Calculus without power turned out awesome with three drum sets (watch out Foot Village!) and then the power came back on for our Brooklyn darlings, Grooms just at the last moment. If you guys missed this one, it was the first event at 5011 but you will have plenty more chances to check it out like in two weeks at FMLY FEST.

So, due to weather, the Grooms show tomorrow has changed locations to 5011, a brand new arts and music space run by The Magic Johnson/THINGS gang. This is gonna be good times island. We got $1 beer, grilled cheese sandwiches and a whole lotta good music. If you want to come for free, we are giving away a few tickets. Just email me at cameron@thefmly.com and tell me what you think of the rain.

Welcome to the unveiling of the FMLY Courtyard located in Los Angeles’ historic Filipinotown. During your stay, indulge in one of our many activities designed for your optimum pleasure. On December 12, FMLY will present a night of strangled jams and lacerated rhythms, where the schizophrenia of shaggy constructions and convoluted epics come together to fuck your shit up. On deck this round are Brooklyn’s Grooms (ex-Muggabears), San Francisco’s Tempo No Tempo, LA’s 60 Watt Kid, and FMLY babes Professor Calculus.
Don’t come too blazed, because upon arrival we will be discussing the trails for the night throughout the courtyard. Split into the four sections of the courtyard are the four bands, and it’s your responsibility to discover your place on the grid of these x and y-axis. This is going to get introspective, it’s going to get loud, and if you’re standing in the first three throws then you’re either going to get wet or get in the mood. In case the latter happens, our pals from Little Spoon Truck will be stopping by with desserts to tickle that sweet tooth.
Don’t forget to download Professor Calculus’ Booty Wrap for free on FMLY RCRDS. See you there!

Since the conception of FMLY we’ve had the privilege to do shows at a chocolate store, backyards, houses, lofts, studios, multimedia spaces, parks, bike rides and normal venues of course. We even took over an Asian imports warehouse once… Well we are very happy to announce our newest venue, the Courtyard in Historic Filipinotown right in between downtown and Echo Park. As we tend to do, this is not a typical venue, in fact it’s exactly what it sounds like. The Courtyard is a courtyard of an apartment building with amazing musicians and artists.
To open up this new spot right, we’ve got friends from all over the country. The first show will be on December 12th and will have some amazing music, art and food.
The line up:
: Grooms (Brooklyn)
:: Tempo No Tempo (San Fancisco)
::: Professor Calculus (FMLY)
:::: 60 Watt Kid (LA)
This is gonna get introspective, it’s gonna get loud, and if you’re standing in the first three throws you’re either gonna get wet or get in the mood. These records pull me into a dream…
Of course it’s ALL AGES and the Little Spoon Dessert Truck will be there too!

It’s time to announce something that we’re all very excited about, the FMLY Dinner Tour! As of January 5 we’re hitting the road with our sleeping bags, skateboards, bikes, tents and FMLY FRNDS to spread the good word on this lil’ cult that we’re all a part of and we hope that you can join us along the way. Here are the dates and please get in contact if you can help out in any way whether it be letting us crash on your floor, take a shower, food recommendations, setting up a house show, making a flyer, spreading the word, etc… all dates after the jump.

I was at 60 Watt Kid’s record release show at the Echo a couple nights ago, with Tearist, Gowns, and Best Coast too. Regrettably, my friends camera broke so I only have this photo from a show at UCI last year. You can get the album from here.
Gowns’ set was simply breathtaking, albeit short. They only played 3 songs. It began with Ezra on the violin, manipulating his live playing with the multitude of pedals in front of him. That droning served as a perfect canvas for Erika’s singing and guitar playing. The song morphed into a sonic masterpiece, one that involved Erika smashing her guitar around a bit at the end. She apologized to it after while tuning. The set ended with a hip hop song. Ezra played music on a keyboard and Erika rapped with the best.
Best Coast went on next, and despite a few issues with the sound at first (the vocals weren’t coming through) played a great set. They played the usual favorites off their 7″ along with a few new songs I hadn’t heard. Bethany pointed out that she and her guitarist, Bobb, had matching guitars. It was planned.
60 Watt Kid came on last, and played some incredible songs. Now with a drummer, their band sounded much more full than I’ve heard it before, and the rhythm added a great new element to their songs. However, it in no way diminished the wonderful interplay between the two original members, Kevin and Derek. They each played and looped parts on guitars and keys, creating sounds I didn’t think possible from just two people. Kevin’s stage antics, once he departed from his instruments and thrashed around the stage with just a microphone, were definitely memorable as well.
If you want to catch 60 Watt Kid for yourself, they’ll be playing the December 12th FMLY show at the Courtyard with Tempo No Tempo and Grooms. Get excited.
