Too much of the animal disfigures the civilized human being, too much culture makes a sick animal. - Carl Jung
We’re on a sinking ship and Shaw is somewhere underneath, trying to patch up the cracks – a merman swimming through a sea of heavy reverb, drum machine claps, and harmonic animal noises. Pretending We’re Not Animals - soon to be the first of two five-song EP’s – lyrically traverses the world through the eyes of various creatures, only to unearth a bit about our nature as beat-making beasts. Lyrics aside, this dude’s voice packs a sweet, edgy punch, and we can’t wait to hear what he and his gal have planned for our first-ever Bay Area Thank You, Come Again next weekend.

It’s always a pleasure to put a new DJDT tune on blast ’round these parts, but two!? Oh man, what’s a kid to do…
Dropping tunes as hot as KE$HA, Jamie and Robert have without doubt produced some kind of underground electropop hit. It’s like something you’d hear repeatedly on your local radio station, but in your friend’s garage or basement! After Jamie gets out all of the catchiest hooks you can fit into a standard pop song, Fitted Kid chimes in with the auto-tuned point of view, all complemented by Robert’s mastermind for dynamics and taste. Shit is nuts and production is on it! Peep more tunes on the Exes‘ page, make it a guilty pleasure.
Next jam is another premiere from a FMLY all-star, DJDT’s remix of Ludacris’ “How Low.” DJs, take note and press play. Man, I’m articulate when it comes to dance music.
Donning his laptop like Thor’s hammer, Cop Magnet Is…Maxwell Velocity gives a small peek at what’s to come this year from the mind of Cop Magnet. Seriously, this dude drops non-stop hits. Hitting the future of mainstream pop music before it happens, we expect some ludicrous shit in the near future like a tape on Mirror Universe and a way too legit Young Money megaremixtape. Pick up the tape over at BoC records, and to celebrate we’re posting a Cop Magnet jam that was literally made yesterday. Can’t wait to put this on repeat driving to SXSW.
The fly honeys from the Splinters had their new album drop yesterday and we here at FMLY are puuuuumped. These new tunes still make you wanna boogie down, jump around, and chant along à la Splintered Bridges – but Kick has also got some songs up it’s sleeve that’ll give you a serious dose of gooseflesh. I’d recommend grabbing a convertible, some sunshine, and some sweet shades before putting this on your car stereo. I’d then recommend driving that convertible to Austin and singing along with them at our very own Thank You, Come Again.
In the meantime, director Natalie Tsui’s deadly adorable music video for “Mysterious” does a super job of curbing our Splinters cravings. It’s kinda like Hitchcock on speed, but waaaay cuter.
“Momo’s journey to peace has taken him to strange and distant lands. Lands where the laws of timing and history no longer govern one’s sense of the world surrounding. It is a good thing he made it, I dare say!” – KONG.
All the way from Ireland, Bobby was one of the first dudes to hit us up about being part of the fmly back in the day with his infectiously whistlable Dublin Duck Dispensary project, and it comes with a great smile to spread word that DDD is now No Monster Club! With tunes as fun as these names, we’re way excited to pass on that No Monster Club is dropping a 20track double EP Tropical Decibels Volumes One and Two on Cass/Flick Recordings in a few weeks. Why the change in name? Bobby says, “I HATE MONSTERS.”
Having worked for a couple years as a duo after the departure of co-singer Jillian, Inland Empire darlings No Paws (No Lions) are now reconstituted as a trio with the addition of their friend Miranda. To celebrate the new line-up, they’ve released No Ghosts on Bridgetown.
The band’s previous recordings are so washed-out and treble-filled that it’s sometimes hard to listen to them. No Ghosts sounds great though, thanks to better vocal mixes and some much-needed low end. The record finally does justice to some No Paws classics, including the glorious nursery rhyme “I’ve Always Been Content:”
Our longtime (we’re talkin’ elemenatary school) fmly and FMLY RIDE vets, The Shrine, just released a Chuck Dukowski produced and Insects vs Robots mixed 7″ single on that blue/greenish sort of vinyl that looks like it glows in the dark but you never really know until you turn off all your lights and have a seance to the Shrine, amiright? Really, this neighborhood effort is a beautiful thing and the final touches on these headbangers and mashslashandmoshpit anthems sort of makes me want to pick a friendly fight with my iTunes. Putting the tit back in attitude, this two-tune record packs some heavy progressions and meaty solos – so don’t say you weren’t fairly warned! Peep a video of side b, “Mirror Fits Like A Glove”, from their release show at the Echo Curio after the jump and you can pick up the 7″, shirts, buttons, and CDs right over here.
Condensing some of the bud heaviest of dronepop jams into a fifteen minute headtrip, Human Resources finds a niche to call his own down headphone euphoria lane. Fast Times wields a blade, sharp enough to become abrasive in its intrigue and smooth enough to bring a welcome trance, every appearance displaying further understanding. Basically, I’m real sweet on this tape. You can order a cassette or download a free digital copy right here.
These textures are enigmatic, and their intent rests in peace. We gave Peripherysome lovin’ in November before taking it in full exposure, but now having been eagerly dosed with a full amount of the Seven Fields of Aphelion we’re rolling down the largest hill in flavor country. Having taken to the timeless, it’s no surprise that Black Moth Super Rainbow’s Seven Fields has transformed the most minimal of keyboard and synth based compositions to an epic magnitude. There are contours to carry your sorrows, valley to push you through thought, and deep caverns to explore with every chance to follow a new path. Live by nature, and truth will come in Periphery. Pick up your copy from Graveface or from Seven Fields herself.
Mmm, we’ve been staying up all night blissing off to Hooray! since the homie Brian at White Guys With Beards tipped us off on Ben’s foggy imagination. Bouncing scales down the back of the spine, “daydreamm” is a twilight fantasy that ends all too early…way to be a tease, dude. Hit up the HooraySpace for a real sweet Modest Mouse cover, “World @ Large”.
