I’m not gonna beat around the bush, SALEM turns me on. And Tanlines? Well only on the right gal, but fortunately these are two Brooklyn dudes so we can rage brotonicly.
SoCo is releasing their eleventh 7″ in this rad series, courtesy of great FADER tastemaking. There’s only 500 out there in the world and FADER is being way cool to allow FMLY to give one away so if you want one then shoot me an email at noah@thefmly.com telling me what band turns YOU on. I’ll pick an email at random Monday evening (12/21) and no worries if you don’t get it this time around, tunes go up for free download right here on December 21.
I just want to give major props to Filter and the Walt Disney Concert Hall for West Coast Left Coast: A Celebration of California’s Creative Renegades. This event is incredibly special, hosting performances from the Kronos Quartet, Brian Wilson and many other iconic musicians. Tickets are a bit pricey, but Filter and FMLY want to see you there so we’re giving away tickets to opening night (Nov21) with the Kronos Quartet, Terry Riley, Matmos, and Mike Einziger!
Fearless iconoclasts Kronos Quartet, performing a piece from award-winning film composer Thomas Newman. Visionary master of minimalism, Terry Riley. Brainy electronica assemblagists Matmos. And Incubus’ psycho-musicologist, Mike Einziger
These cutting edge California artists come together for one incredible evening of solo performances and exclusive collaborations. Drawing inspiration from their mutual admiration and respect, as well as their own West Coast roots, expect a unique tapestry of combined influences and extraordinary talents.
If you want to go shoot an email over to noah@thefmly.com and tell me what your favorite Disney movie is. I just re-watched Alice In Wonderland (1951) and it was fantastic, but I’d have to say that Songs Of The South or Peter Pan will always pwn my heart. I’ll pick the recipient at random on Monday the 16th so you have the weekend to get back to me. Videos of the performers after the jump.
Hey New York, I’ve got tickets for the givin’ for you to go to the Natural History Museum this Friday and catch a riddim heavy night of DJ Rupture, Matt Shadetek, Jahdan Blakkamore, Maluca, and Sonido Martines. You’ve gotta be 21+ or have one rad fake ID, so if you want to go shoot an email to noah@thefmly.com with your favorite exhibit at the Natural History museum. If you’ve never been then tell me that and I will probably just give you the tickets right off the bat. I’ll randomly pick the recipients on Thursday.
Los Angeles, our ticket giveaway for Neon Indian is still running for November 20. Shoot an email to the address above if you’re interested, tell me what you’d like to see in neon.
Alan Palomo goes by some pretty rad alias’ whether it be Ghosthustler, VEGA or Neon Indian. Now we’ve gabbed a fair deal on Neon Indian along with everyone and their aunt (and even Charlie Gibson), so we’re psyched to be giving away tickets to catch the live show on November 20 at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. Want a pair? Shoot an email to noah@thefmly.com with something you’d like to see in neon (tombstones, shoes, hula hoops, etc)!
Brad P turns tunes like a hooker turns tricks – and a good hooker at that. With Brad P and The Celebrities only a short ways behind him, it would appear that this guy is racking up albums like Scrooge collects schillings, minus the greed. All two of Brad P’s albums are available for free, including his most recent release under the new moniker Brad P and The Son of Sam.
Brad’s brainchildren are ridiculously upbeat and infectious, with some indie-pop influences (i.e. Beach Boys meet Adam Green) that stick out like cotton candy at a carnival and lyrics that tow the line between adorable and insane. His voice rings monochromatic and tongue-in-cheek, whether he’s singing about trapping girls in boxes or some dude’s cray-cray escape from island life. Don’t miss the boat on this charmer’s newest grab bag of shiny song-gems…
Iceland may be bankrupt but they haven’t stopped making good music. San Fang Bous is fast paced, laid back folk interspersed with electronic euphoria. He just confirms my believe that if it comes from Iceland, it’s the goods.
San Fang Bous is currently on tour with Mum (what was I saying about Iceland?) and we have tickets to give away for the El Rey show on November 6th. If you’d like to go, shoot an email over to contest@thefmly.com. Music video, download and tour dates after the jump.
Leave it to the French to make something so gay happy and bubbly that it makes Mika look, well, English. Sliimy is oozing with silly fun pop beats but don’t let that fool you. There is a real blend of genres, eras and styles that that answers the question I never asked; what would happen if Mika and Prince had a baby?
His debut album, Paint Your Face, is out now and in conjunction with the release, he has put out these super cool t-shirt. I know $40 can be pricey so we want to give some to you fo’ free! Send me an email to contest@thefmly.com with the subject title Sliimy to get it.
It’s that time again. On September 4th it’s time to get all hot and sweaty and dance the night away with one of our favorite crews DANCEiSM. If you don’t know these guys yet, take a look back to the last DANCEiSM here. They have all sorts of new suprises lined up for us this time. These guys bring a positive attitude and put creativity in front of profit with live projections, art installations, body painting and a lot more. I’m personally not a fan of raves but DANCEiSM is a lot more than that. It’s an experience not worth missing.
You can get your presale tickets here but you also might want to try emailing us for a free pair at info@thefmly.com and tell us how often you dance.
We have a very special giveaway for ya’ll…HORSE THE BAND!
Big ups and F Yeahs for Upsilon Acrux and All Leather supporting HORSE The Band for the release party of Desparate Living on July 31 at the Center For Arts in Eagle Rock. I just hope they know what’s in store… FMLY has a generous batch of tickets to give away for this show and you can claim a pair by shooting me an email at noah@thefmly.com with your best pickup line. I’ll select the lucky folks at random sometime on Wednesday July 29 so get to flirtin’! If you have bad luck, you can always purchase tickets here. I’m pretty sure they’re the most thrilling $8 you’ll ever spend, at least in America.
My favorite pickup line? You’re ugly, but I’m interested.
Our buddies over at the Tape are hosting a pretty rad show tomorrow night and they’ve given us the ability to give out one free pair of tickets.
The deal is, whoever sends me the most interesting meal that you’d cook me that is no longer than 20 words will win the pair. You can just send me an email too trying to explain your situation and why you need these tickets but I plan on posting the winner if we get any good ones.
Tomorrow night it’s time to dust off ‘dem vans, rep the Oakland New Era fitteds, and ghostride on over to the Knitting Factory with The Pack. Lucky for ya’ll, we have a few pairs of tickets to give away for our boys in Bay. If you think you’re shinnin’ enough to get a pair then send an email to randy@thefmly.com.
Bonus act on this night is our boys, the Cataracs. Some of the Pack went to High School with the Cataracs who were pals with our pals and so on and so forth. The point being, tomorrow night is gonna rawk. Cataracs video for “Baby Baby” after the jump.

Now if you’re not in Los Angeles and you find yourself in New York Thursday night, I’m DJ’ing at Club Remix in Tribeca with my pal ECK$ whom we blogged about (and the post went number one on Hype Machine). Flyer above gives all the info – we’re giving out crazy straws! Fbook event here.
Prodigy tells it like it is, real talk dawg. “I’m paranoid, and it’s not the weed. In my rear view mirror, these cars, they follow me.” I won’t divulge my relationship with Mobb Deep’s music, but Prodigy’s “Mac 10 Handle” has been a favorite tune of mine for the last year or so.
Imagine boarding a train in the center of a city. No racing to an airport and across a terminal, no delays, no sitting on the tarmac, no lost luggage, no taking off your shoes. (Laughter.) Imagine whisking through towns at speeds over 100 miles an hour, walking only a few steps to public transportation, and ending up just blocks from your destination. Imagine what a great project that would be to rebuild America. (via the pres)
Transportation. This is the latest graphic representation of the nation’s proposed high-speed rail corridors that have been the talk of the town since Obama showed his support at a press conference yesterday. I’m pumped to see how this plan develops, especially when it comes to keeping it green and economical. Maybe Obama should hit up Prodigy for some high speed railing advice?
IMEEM and FADER have created quite the interesting contest. Design any type of Ratatat Merch and win a customized bike? Dope. Contest rules here. I want to see some beer cozies, jellybeans, a new era fitted, or highlighters. If you take my ideas and win, then I call the ride on Fridays.
