Yohuna – It’s All Yours
Truman Peyote – Magentadoor II
Yohuna & Truman Peyote – Carrefour
Adelyn Rose + Yohuna – All The Slow Songs (Waiting)

Aside from their collaborative performances at FMLY FEST in December it has been a whiiiile since we’ve heard what’s up from snuggle buddies Yohuna and Truman Peyote… though I insist that there’s no rush for transparency when your previous output contains this value of limitless inspiration and exploration. To our excitement the twosome recently announced a MidWest tour together, beginning this Friday, and coupled with this reason for celebration came the official announcement that our San Diego-based label buds Art Fag are reissuing Yohuna’s Revery on both cassette and vinyl [pre-order & release date coming soon]. If you didn’t have the chance to cop one of those quarter-hour gems when they were self-released as an edition of 50 then now is your chance, and for the sweet sake of novelty the mastering on this go-around is at the hands of Pete Lyman (No Age, Mars Volta, Atlas Sound). SWEET! Additionally, Yohuna and Truman Peyote both have some major tunage to share this year, and when we have more concrete deets you’ll be the first to hear. If you’re fiending for new jams from our Eau Claire camp we highly recommend checking out Yohuna guitarist Adelyn Rose and her freshly released Mezzanine right here, or groovin’ on some endless Moro, plus we heard FARMS is reuniting, but okay you get it. The tour poster up top is a huge hi5 from our galpal Shelly who is co-designing this year’s FMLY FEST Brooklyn poster. Make sure to peep her site and these sweethearts on tour!

Hundred Waters – Me & Anodyne
Levek – Geographic John
Emily Reo – On The Beach (Neil Young cover)
Spirit Tramp – Ghost Wave
philip seymour hoffman – tulips for my buds

Gainesville, Florida is servin’ up sun rays in Brooklyn this week bringing not only the return of Florida’s bad boy, Levek, but the New York debut of Hundred Waters. Hundred Waters, comprised of Levek’s former supporting band, shared their first record last week via Elestial Sound and can stay stuck in our heads as looong as they please. Our man Levek has also been creepin’ around in the studio for a minute now making huge love beats for his full length we’re all so anxious for. Former Floridian darling turned New Yorker Emily Reo is wrapping up recording for a real exciting split coming later this year, and performing a brand new set with homemade visuals. Spirit Tramp is one fiiiine spirit cat also known as JT. Maybe you’ve heard of Total Bummer fest? If not, look into it… that’s his baby. And no longer Philip Seymour Hoffman, Cuddle Formation is the sonic result of putting a group of super rad people in the same room. Let’s hang out! Feel free to come with any questions regarding FMLY FEST Brooklyn, and we’ll have a small writing home station for any postcard making.

Evan Voytas – You Don’t Even Know Where It’s At

Our boy Evan Voytas has been busy living it up touring the world with prolific soulster beat heads Gonjasufi and Flying Lotus, but he has never stopped creating weirdo dance classics in a high pitched climaxing manner. His early shows are still clear in my mind — watching him switch out cassette tapes and dance erratically from side to side with nothing but his suave moves and a mic. This much has changed. Evan switched out the tape player for a 5-piece band complete with spot on harmonies and eye candy. His new EP Can’t Let Anybody Know Who You Are was just released and is a main ingredient in starting the day off right.

Oh Fortuna – Might Mountain
Emily Reo – I’ll Never Live By the Coast
Yohuna – It’s All Yours
Michael Parallax – Growing Splendid

Before our buds take off back to their respective homes we believe it would be best to nurture this spiritual hangover with a fine mix of sensual aromas. Tonight – rsvp here – Caleb Johannes of Truman Peyote is on hand to tackle some vegan tastables while aural delicacies will be handled by Oh Fortuna, Emily Reo, Yohuna, and Michael Parallax. This is the final California soundmaking excursion for our buds so let’s spend it heartbeating in unison. See ya there!

adventure times :: fmly fest

For the natural life of our environment, which recedes into hibernation at this time of year, we blossom. FMLY FEST is just ten days off, so before we cross the single digit barrier it seems about time to announce these set times. Since the lineup was collaboratively booked via volunteer meetings and email threads we thought this decision would be all the more appropriate if our schedule reflected the submissions received from our buds around town. Peep ‘em below and get your stoked on with us! <3′s represent round robins aka cuddle puddles.

Hear Hums – Woo
Emily Reo – I’ll Never Live By the Coast
the spookfish – new filter

Wednesday evening marks our second dinner & a show in Brooklyn, and we seriously can’t wait to spend the night hanging out with y’all! Hear Hums have packed their sounds of the wilderness for the long drive up from Florida, ready to bring on the bodily gyrations that come along with their soon-to-be-released Opens. We also can’t wait to reunite the hums with our darling enchantress Emily Reo, this is her last NYC show for a very long time so we’ll be debuting her visuals, new handmade merch, new tunes, and enough sweet casio tones to keep your heart warm through the winter. We are also so lucky to once again be accompanied by the presence of our bff the Spookfish, after three years of keeping up with his travels through Asia, Europe, and a stint as one of Grouper’s choirboys in Portland it’s with the largest smile ever that we can welcome our young man home. And before the sounds begin I’ll present a really fun workshop I call Writing Home that will officially launch later this month! You can find the fbook event & read more about our festivities right here, all food will be vegetarian and vegan friendly.

we get all teary at reunions

FMLY Fest 2k11 is the third annual expression of Los Angeles’ friendliest D.I.T. (do-it-together) music and arts festival. On December 29 & 30 we invite you to our open gathering: a two day long celebration of our FMLY and FRNDS representing an international community of artists, musicians, activists, free thinkers, and like-minded social do-gooders. Last year we hosted 35 bands, 15 artists, and 2,500 new and old friends over two days and four spaces. Since then, we’ve become passionate about a whole lot more and we want to share as much amazing finds with you as we can.

Ride by bike and leave your cycle with our crank valet, because this year we’ve invited 45 of the sweetest bands from all over the country to share with you. We’ve got not one… not five… but NINE combinations of round robins and head to head band battles. If that sounds like it’s a little too extreme for your weekend then our buds from local labels Complicated Dance Steps and No Kings will be on site presenting a chill-out tent with experimental and ambient live performances. You can even take a break from dancing and head over to our art galleries, zine libraries, curated lecture and workshop series, and interactive art installations.

Everyone involved with FMLY Fest 2011 would also like to extend our most sincere gratitude to the Power of Green Los Angeles for donating the solar cells and panels to make this the first solar powered D.I.Y. music and arts festival in the country, Food Not Bombs and the Revolutionary Autonomous Communities for providing environmentally conscious food, and everyone who has donated their time, resources, energy, and love towards making this happen. We are so grateful to our community for allowing us to throw such an amazing festival with zero sponsorship from any greedy or otherwise unsavory corporations and institutions. Listen to the official FMLY FEST mixtape above and click here to be redirected to our dedicated tumblr where you can watch a sweet selection of videos from our participating artists as well as purchase tickets! $10 for a day pass and $15 for the weekend. See ya there.

a message from yohuna

This is a note to talented touring friends. I live in a city called Eau Claire, Wisconsin. It is on the way from Chicago (or Madison/Milwaukee) to Minneapolis, right off highway 94. I am looking to bring the FMLY dinner & a show to the Midwest. It’s pretty straightforward, but here’s the deal: Homecooked meal and intimate gathering at my house. We’ll charge about ten bucks per plate and the money (after groceries are paid for) will go to you. This is for bands needing gas money, a comfy place to rest their heads, and a mellow audience on a weird day of the week. For those in LA, there’s still some spots open for an event like this on Friday with Orchard Theif; RSVP here. To NYC FMLY, there’s one tomorrow night with Cloud Nothings. Some videos of what this kind of happening looks like are attached. Write me, yohuna [at] gmail [dot] com.

Small Wonder – Oracle

Thank You Come Again hops across the country tomorrow afternoon to celebrate a lifetime of two years, and to begin a new monthly home in New York City. The purpose is to share a bunch of sounds that we love with our friends and friends who make them, and present this as a public, free, acoustic, daytime activity in a beautiful place. For our New York series we hope to offer a small paradise within such a bubbling and rapid environment. Each month TYCA will be held in a new and fantastic location, and we hope you’re equally as excited to journey through New York as we are! For our first-coming we’ve decided to pick a neutral point where most have easy access and a knowledge of, and that point is McCarren Park. We’ll meet on the park side of Bedford, closer to Nassau, just inside the gate. We’ll be there at 2, hangin’ on our rainbow parachute!

We’d also love to thank our friends for wanting to make this happen, and The Spookfish, Max Alper, Small Wonder, Casper and the Holy Ghost, Fables, and Matthew Molnar will be hangin’ and sharing their sounds with us. Feel free to bring your own instruments and jam with us, and if you’d like to play next time just send me an email at philipseymourhoffman@thefmly.com [all spam or mailing list jerks that copy this address will be hunted down and tossed into a Han Solo death mask]. The fbook event is here, and we’ll see you tomorrow! Video above is from a TYCA early last year in Los Angeles.

this is going to be ridiculous
