THESE GUYS have fun. And they live like two blocks away from us- natively speaking. Wait wait, they’re playing at Coachella? Figures.
Make way, and shake way.

This October the 16th – Los Angeles awaits the deep-house beats of Kaskade. With the help of Insomniac, Hollywood’s Palladium will harbor ponds of thousands to dance their way into trance. One could prepare to hit all fours to the floor while pounding to the ethereal vocals of Kaskade’s special guest, Haley. And hey, I’m down with that.
For Friday night’s groove, buy tickets here.

Now I don’t go to too many events like these, but I do enjoy the type the guys at DANCEiSM pull off. It’s like they turn the rave scene into a dance party into a house party into a music and arts movement with tacos, ice cream, beer, installments like no other, and of course dancing the night off. This time was special. They brought acts like AC Slater, Felix Cartal and many supporting acts that supplied the night off well.
While walking through the glow in the dark bubbles at the entrance, I noticed two rooms, an outdoor patio, photobooth, the most amazing LEDs, and body paint. This all created such the relaxed enviroment. One could go outside and converse with fellowerers which made for the house party vibe. Then again, we all came for one reason of getting down.
Lucky for me, I caught most of the night’s acts
We were required to shut down Hard Summer at The Forum last night by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. They declared the event a “hazard” after seeing concertgoers jumping from the balcony to the floor, along with numerous other potentially dangerous activities. The Inglewood Police Department backed the decision of the Fire Department and assisted in the clearance of the venue.
While we, the promoters, worked with the authorities to consider other options to continue the concert, ultimately they made the decision based on the safety of the concertgoers. We are happy to report that there were no major injuries.
We are offering refunds to all concertgoers.
-The Official HARD Website
The last words said by Hard Officials after a heart wrenching disappointment – HARD was officially shut down by the Los Angeles Fire Department all before midnight.
As I made my way unto the night and into Inglewood for LA’s HARD SUMMER FEST, I could feel the good vibes waving in the air. Candy bracelets here, and fury boots there. The creators of HARD Fest have really built a strong community of loyal fans.
I circled the Forum on foot three to four times, finding lines and lines of people waiting to get in. Finally, I got to will call to pick up my tickets. Now, the wait to get in. In the crowds of lines that didn’t seem to be moving, I suddenly see 50-60 fans jolt in blurred figures right past me yelling, “RUSH!” They took down one of the fences and bum-rushed the security for a quick and easy way in (I was too slow to react with them).

After an hour, “YES I’M IN. Wait, I missed Crystal Castles?” “No worries, but where’s the music? No one is dancing, everyone’s a bit uneasy, how do I get down to the floor?” -thoughts that crossed my mind after two hours of waiting for Chromeo to come on.
In those few hours, I saw how this night folded out…more after the jump
Not like we have enough great stuff from Portland, OR (i.e. Menomena, the Decemberist, YACHT, etc.), I got the pleasure of coming across one of Obey Your Brain’s newer additions, What’s Up. At a first encounter in Austin’s SXSW, we got a little preview of this uncanny trio at an off-by thrift store show. There, they opened up for FMLY FRNDS dd/mm/yyyy and Reverse X-Rays plus more, but when they came on, Cameron and I got to groovin’. This is the experimental music that you so much need. It’s sort of the way you want to wake up in the morning and the way you want to live throughout the day. It keeps me up, like any upper cannot.
Being a short-lived band collectively (formed in early 2008), we see that they are already causing a riff in our music scene by joining a label alongside acts like WHY?, Dan Deacon, Dntel and more. The way they perform is also a sight to be seen. The bassist remains sturdy at his bass, while both the drummer and guitarist pull out arms from nowhere to play their synths. This only adds the best of textures to the sound, performing not only as a “rock group, but also a production entity.”
Lucky for us all, they’ve got a record on the way to debut titled Content Imagination which is due out on May 19th of this year. And here’s your sneak peak to the album!
Tomorrow night it’s time to dust off ‘dem vans, rep the Oakland New Era fitteds, and ghostride on over to the Knitting Factory with The Pack. Lucky for ya’ll, we have a few pairs of tickets to give away for our boys in Bay. If you think you’re shinnin’ enough to get a pair then send an email to randy@thefmly.com.
Bonus act on this night is our boys, the Cataracs. Some of the Pack went to High School with the Cataracs who were pals with our pals and so on and so forth. The point being, tomorrow night is gonna rawk. Cataracs video for “Baby Baby” after the jump.
Hoop Dreams – You Make Me Like Vans (the knife x the pack)

Now if you’re not in Los Angeles and you find yourself in New York Thursday night, I’m DJ’ing at Club Remix in Tribeca with my pal ECK$ whom we blogged about (and the post went number one on Hype Machine). Flyer above gives all the info – we’re giving out crazy straws! Fbook event here.

Yes, the rumors you’ve heard were all true and ongoing. The Get Up Kids have reunited on tour to spread their commemorates of their album, Something To Write Home About’s, 10th year anniversary. To capture the album’s full entirety, they will be playing the album from start to finish, exact-a-mundo-ly the way it was recorded. Indeed, I am a big long time fan of the pop-punk originators, and will be at this sold-out show taking place at the Troubadour tonight FOR SURE. Send your jealous thoughts to randy@thefmly.com.
Rumors have also been solidified that the group is RE-RELEASING this album on vinyl or with a DVD and photobook. How pleasuring…
Speaking of pleasuring, Los Angeles locals, Miniature Tigers, will be fingering and tickling our ears as the opener tonight. I mean, what more can I ask for out of a night? Except for the possibilty of ‘ronas & lime and quesadilla burgers to top it off.
OLÈ !!
Downtown LA – a place of subtlety, long strolls, friendly faces, and FUCKING DANCEiSM.
This past Friday, I was chanced with tickets to join a few thousand people in (aerial) dancing, bumping, grinding, throw up-ing, body painting, sort of night, better called DANCEiSM. Walking in to see someone dancing on ropes hung from above, I figured that this night had better intentions than I expected.
Going further and deeper into this huge space, I counted two giant dance rooms, an outside bar and inside bar – arms, stomachs and cute faces tagged up with hearts and peace signs (minimal clothing as I predicted), and smiles and kisses all around. I want to congratulate the makers of DANCEiSM for such a successful concept. Big ups to the DJs, the dancers, the lighting, picture takers, and fun makers of the party. Let’s do this again sometime. I’ll invite my gang and you invite yours.
As the great Ludacris has said a many time and I quote (with minor adjustments):
It was Friday night and I was feelin’ aight (Yep)
Downtown Los Angeles, big city, bright lights,
Mixin’ Henney wit da Sprite while I’m drinkin’ and drivin’,
No police lights, no police sirens,
I’m headed to DANCEiSM, lookin’ fo’ a freak…Have a couple of drinks and quit discriminating

So, you have absolutely nothing to do this friday. Maybe you do, but who cares about that. IT’S DANCEISM THIS FRIDAY. That’s your first and top priority, even before eating your walnut and egg-battered breakfast. If you have tripped into a cave and weren’t able to get out for the past year and you don’t know what Danceism stands for, it is just a great big time, that was pulled out of Ben Oprtsu’s pocket as he laid it out on the mother nature’s dance floor. With so many DJs and full band acts, you’d be sure to drop it like it’s almost too overwhelmingly hot. Ranging from acts like Designer Drugs to Acid Girls and to Robot Love, Danceism is your helio-center. It’ll get hotter than your sauna, than your favorite cajun hot sauce, and much hotter than the balls of Arizona’s deserts.
Expect large crowds. And minimal clothing

Get hyped here:
Since Dntel’s last album, he’s been thinking of releasing some of his cuts he’s done in his earlier years (mid 1990s) that never made it out – a sweet and subtle compilation of some of his origins. On this three disc set, you can hear his inspirations of Aphex Twin, Mu-Ziq, and the more instrumental vibes he was into. Looking back on his past pays off for Mr. Tamborello cause it so surely became a 3-CD set, after some re-mastering of course.

Pattern is Movement’s celebrating! Well it looks they’re doing it with Kanye West, Beyonce and Justin. Yeah, Justin Timba, like whatever. Well actually, it’s better than you think. They’re making some hits some better ones. Observe:
