hoping for a society that is based on free space, public recreation, and accessible means of equality is a dream inherent in living in an urban environment. here, the land was commodified and sold so swiftly to privileged capitalist enterprise that the very notion is safer to ignore completely than bring directly into a public sphere. our rights to performance and creation have become the property of corporations and license holders, so much that our mediated life tends to only recapitulate a demonstration of how we should appear. however, there will forever exist alternatives.

fmly is a socially conscious global community. we believe in the emancipation and unshackling of our self from the constraints of irrational and unjust structures that limit self-development and self-determination. we believe that there are many of us throughout the globe asking similar taboo questions with no one to reciprocate an honest answer. in collectivity, we will become the change that we wish to see happen in our environment. we can no longer live in the mentality of a ‘me’ generation and must therefor unite for greater social causes such as understanding relationships within communities, systems, and spaces, as well as nurturing discussion on the politics of play, art, environment and life itself.

we are day laborers, daydreamers, makers, prosumers, visual/auditory/spatial artists, activists/hacktivists, theorists, writers, students, cyclists, environmentally conscious foodies, and like minded social do-gooders from all over the world. this is where we come to converse, to collaborate, to share, and to understand why we must actively engage our environment with intent. welcome to our community… those who were strangers will turn into friends.

“this is a bunch of youth who will have to live together in the forthcoming century,” campbell said. “what fmly is really trying to do is to make people aware of the sort of lifestyles we need to have in the future in order to keep living on this planet. [we are] trying to get a mentality shift in the youth so that we are out here doing something really responsible. it’s promoting bikes, it’s promoting music … and it provides us an ability to go out and take space back.” -city on a hill, santa cruz press

in 2011 we were interviewed by the stellar french webzine hartzine and the los angeles times. if you’re looking for a beginner’s peek into the theories and history behind fmly and our global presence, then we recommend the hartzine interview. for those interested in the ethnography of our fmly ride and an introduction to our los angeles chapter, then peep that la times piece.

say hi
(for volunteers, sound-makers, video folk, graphic designers, a coding wiz, and you!)

we recommend getting in touch with noah@thefmly.com or cameron@thefmly.com initially, and they’ll help out or refer you to someone you’ll really groove with. as our site exists right now it may be a bit difficult to navigate who lives where, but we promise that we are working very hard right now to develop an awesome and user-friendly system of where we’re hangin’ out.

for those interested in paid or unpaid advertising space on the fmly site, whether it be your creative arts endeavor or your shoe company, we ask for you to please contact ads@thefmly.com with the nature of your advertising, the length of your campaign, and your budget.
