Shad takes me over when I listen to him. I haven’t been an enthusiastic hip hop fan for the last couple of years, but with Shad I can actually understand what he is communicating and it’s a rare moment in the genre – that I have listened to recently – where there is subject matter outside of sexual exploitation and violence. The video above for “Keep Shining” brought Shannon and I to tears, and the rest of his videos range from inspiring to goofy. Most of the time he raps about how hard it is to not have money and various human connections… two things I can relate to pretty well. And he holds a BA in business with a Masters in liberal studies.
