It started with a drum roll. Calvin Harris, a scottish disco jockey dream boat, apparated on stage this past Thursday night at the Music Box Los Angeles making the thousands of us squeal at the lull of his very sight. The crescendo of the drum roll released into his hit track, “I’m Not Alone”, reminding us that we are just that — all together for this one mad-insane-looking gentlemen, whose tracks have awed and swayed the thousands into this impulsively bouncing house beat.

The direction this genre is veering towards is making it more exclusive for the sexy, grown and mature. Sleek & chic is in, and a 21+ Calvin Harris show reminds us that we don’t have to be categorized as a kandi-raver-plur enthusiast to enjoy dancing. In fact, the prime demographic of the night had a mean age of 30, and on this seldom occasion I felt like a baby in a board meeting putting me in an awkward juxtaposition of comparing two sides of one universally-accepted genre. I’m reminded: this music is easy to understand, easy to predict, easy to enjoy, and above all, easy to dance to. I had fun.

On another note, this genre has enormously peaked the interest of mainstream radio, and during the night, Mr. Harris announced that a Top 40 artist dubbed over one of his original tracks. To keep things blunt- not interested. Better luck next time. If you guys care to search it up, the artist rapped over this track:

Now, this video captures exactly what the night felt like.
