Springtime is here! Well, it’s not technically here, of course… but birds are chirping and kids are playing outside of my open window. This weekend, we’ll have the pleasure of “springing forward” and gaining a glorious hour of sunshine in exchange for losing an hour of sleep. Also, my allergies are bad right now and I’m home sick in bed. So – technically or not – springtime is here!
To celebrate the spring, I made a mixtape for you. It’s less than 30 minutes long, so you can fit all of the songs on a single side of a standard cassette if you’d like. These are some of my favorite new sounds by some of my favorite West Coasters (well, with the exception of Comfort Slacks I think it’s actually some of my favorite Angelinos). There’s a little bit of hip hop, some gorgeous ballads, and a bit of neu-electro. There’s even one song, “I’m Sorry” by Jon Barba (ex-Nicole Kidman), that hasn’t been officially released yet but might be his greatest recorded triumph.
Anyway, you can download the whole thing here. It’s a zip folder! You can also check out the tracks individually:
01 Emily Lacy – Land
02 Jon Barba – I’m Sorry
03 Halloween Swim Team – Pitch Black (Jonathan Tramp Remix)
04 No No Jammers – Forever My Dawg
05 Eagle and Talon – Ruen Pair
06 Comfort Slacks – Back to Sea
07 Kid Static – Glare
08 Nima and Geoff – So Gone, Like You
09 Fernanda Ulibarri – Sol
