wikileaks vs current world order

I’m sure by now we’ve all heard some about the Wikileaks scandal. This is a big move in the world of leaked material with lots of questions. Here’s a very brief overview of what’s been happening. As you probably already know, Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, was arrested on charges of rape soon after the documents were leaked, supposedly completely unrelated. Michael Moore has since posted bail for him. Anna Ardin, the woman who is accusing Julian of assault may have ties to the CIA according to Disinfo.com. Meanwhile Bradley Manning, the soldier who originally leaked the documents to Wikileaks has been detained in a marine brig for the past 5 months and was put in a military jail for two months before that in Kuwait. For the past 7 months he has been in isolation for 23 hours a day, denied a pillow or blanket, the ability to exercise and has been injected with antidepressants to prevent him from going completely insane from the isolation.
Our government is torturing dissenting solders while trying to cover their tracks in other fields. This should be taken as a sign by the US government and governments around the world. We don’t live in a world where secrets can be kept anymore. Thanks to the internet, the world is becoming increasingly transparent and if the governance systems can’t adapt to that fact, then the trust between government and the governed will be lost and such governments will become irrelevant. It’s time for governments to reassess the way they think about protection. Remember when we were told as children that honesty is the best policy? Maybe if governments are doing things that they want classified, those things shouldn’t be done. Is invading Iraq on false pretenses really protecting the American people? Are the Wikileaks leaks a threat to the people’s safety or a blow to the government detached from it’s people’s needs? The US and governments around the world need to take a good hard look in the mirror and think about what politicians and the American people mean by freedom and Democracy.

This, of course brings up some much larger problems about governmental systems around the world. If the governments are the people that are supposed to be protecting us, why does it seem now that there are ulterior motives around every turn. The system of governance has largely been the same in America since it’s founding, excluding the formation of the CIA and other elusive organizations. With all the advancements in society since 1776, maybe it’s just time to rethink the way we govern all together. The information era has radically changed the way we receive news, entertainment and each other and this era just started 10 years ago! We are in the worst state economically since the great depression. The unemployment rate is almost 10% overall with a 17% unemployment rate for black people. At the same time, banks are set to report their two year stride of the best years ever reported after getting bailed out in 2008 and 2009. With no changes made to the current system, it’s only a matter of time before the banks and other industries fall again, harder than before. Since the Federal Reserve and the 5 largest banks are so intimately tied, the government and every other government also has the possibility of falling. This is not a matter of discussing conspiracy theories. Every politician has hands in their pockets from private interests. It’s time for us to demand change for the survival of humanity. For my two cents, private interest lobbyists should be outlawed and the financial benefits of elected government officials should be eliminated and an average wage should be implied. The fundamental problems of our society can’t and won’t be solved while those in power of decision making are blinded by the true challenges of a governments people. A quote you’ve probably heard before from Ghandi is “A nation’s greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members.” It’s time to try on that measuring system.

No matter how you feel on these issues, it’s important to contact your elected officials and let them know what you want from them. If there is one thing almost everyone can agree on, it’s that they have no idea what the American people want.
