As part of yesterday’s If I Ran The Zoo playlist, Emily dropped a particular jam that no one outside of a few friends have had the chance to hear yet…so right now we’re gonna turn the lights out, close our eyes, and feel this one out. When it comes to bands I’m stoked on, Truman Peyote are the marshmallow in my hot cocoa. There have been some serious transformations to the lineup this year, but with every coming and going there’s a new set of relationships and stories. And with Caleb on the verge of moving the namesake to Los Angeles, 2011 will prove to be an exceedingly intriguing document of new sonic frontiers.

Ohio homies Cloud Nothings have had their share of remixes at a steady pace, approaching both ambient and glitch’d spastic waves. The most recent comes from Truman Peyote, keeping the torch burning as a call and response among friends. Furthering the ritual, let’s remind ourselves of Eric‘s TP remix of Railcars’ “Cathedral With No Eyes” that was released earlier this year. The sludge, the abrasive textures, but the embedded heart that shines through every pulse with a smile from ear to ear. Now peek into Caleb’s take on “Morgan”, the clean and well oiled machine to churn out whatever environment it wishes to provoke. Alone from their stunning records, Truman Peyote [whether a combination of friends or a solo project] have taken 2010 to ensure that their wondering approach to the manipulation of sound is not lost behind curtains of inaccessibility or a bullshit hype machine. These are powerful pushing straight from the heart jams, and although this take on “Morgan” is certainly a nod to a more traditional pop rhetoric than we’re used to from TP it’s only a bookmark for all the future we’re stoked for. So let’s enjoy this present.
