As Western culture develops into a spiral of technological determinism, the boundaries between a visual culture and a virtual reality blend into a singular entity. The history that birthed the cinematic empire we call Hollywood is proving never to fall, because as its weak star-studded support beams begin to sink west into the La Brea Tar Pits it draws time for the parasitic virtual to feed. “The Lumière tradition of ‘placing the world within one’s reach’” is no longer as relevant as it was in the twentieth century; it has now become necessary to place the history of the world within one’s experience. It is precisely the harnessing of visibility in cinema that took place in 1895 through 1906, that we, as a growing global village, must adapt to modern times.
Welcome Winter Break, welcome the amount of fantastic events that are ripe to begin. Welcome experiences that we’re hitting the road to achieve. Next weekend is FMLY Fest in Los Angeles with Koalacaust, Active Child, and eighteen more excellent artists, just a few days later is our Anti-Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve in Santa Barbara with DJDT, a couple of days after that is the FMLY RIDE with HORSE the Band (instrumental set), Ben Oprstu (DANCEiSM), Railcars, and a few days after that kicks off the FMLY DNR TR at the Smell only to wrap up back in Los Angeles with the homies Wonder Wheel, Tan Dollar, Weed Diamond, and the touring crew of Professor Calculus, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Jules Verne.
Thank you for offering your support in order for us to do this. I’ll be heading back to Los Angeles on Saturday, just in time for FMLY Fest, so it’ll be a pleasure to meet a shit ton of ya. The passage at the head of this post is a portion of the first paragraph from my final paper of the semester. It’s over. Safe travels to our friends right now, whether you’re criss-crossing the world or just the neighborhood. Keep on keepin’ it symbolic.
