When I caught Wavves at the Market Hotel a couple of months ago I met a dude who works at an American Apparel in San Diego. The first thing I said do him, “What! Do you know Da Bears!?” And guess what, he did! Da Bears are one of the most meaningful locals bands to me personally for several reasons, (1) they are always down to party no matter what the location, circumstance or condition (2) they have a badass band van (3) they’re some of the sweetest dudes, and band bros, and have helped us out on several occasions by just offering their presence.

Da Bears have a couple of new tunes for download on their MySpace, so head over there and give them some love! But if you’re in a rush, we’ll be hosting them on FMLY as well. Catchy hooks, mean progressions and darling vocal melodies are what I love best about Da Bears, hope you dig ‘em as well!

Da Bears – Sword In Hand
Da Bears – Regal Begal
Da Bears – Quiero Que Me Quieras (new jam)
Da Bears – The Earth Still Spins (new jam)

and after the jump is a memorial video to beau velasco from japanther and the death set.

“Beau Velasco and Ian Vanek of Deathset and Japanther made this effort at art in 2006. After Beau’s death in 2009 the piece was finalized by Vanek with the help of Chad Von Nau and released to the public as a way of remembering a dear friend.”
