totally not flossing the very best… it was my kid sister’s fault

Okay. First off, the Echo/Echoplex reviews probably will never have pictures that actually relate to the show themselves (these came from an epic day at Rincon last Friday)… get use to it. Second off, this is my personal observation of how the night went down, don’t take offense if it differs from yours.

Saturday night was a weird one – the weird came from the combination of excitement, letdown, and sheer bewilderment all circling my mind like some chaotic aura.

Sorta like what this does to your mind...

Kid Sister – Right Hand Hi
Totally Michael – Casual Satisfaction (Flosstradamus remix)
The Very Best – Julia

The excitement were the days before and segued into the letdown when it was finally confirmed that The Very Best wouldn’t be there due to extraneous travel concerns; the bewilderment came when the replacement act was announced as Totally Michael

I personally have nothing against pop-punk or it’s hybridization with electro-rap (a bastard child to say the least), I was raised on Blink-182 and still hold some novelty place for them in my heart, but the vibe before Totally Michael carried itself on electro-house woven seamlessly together as the dance-less floor filled and I personally feel that would have been an alright strategy to fill the hour of 10-11.

Casual Satisifaction was a far-fetched stretch away from Julia (even though Flosstradamus themselves have dipped into Totally Michael)… but I’ll let you decide.

After the bewilderment faded I was left to observe why the hell I enjoy Flosstradamus so much. J2K (Josh Young) and Autobot (Curt Cameruci) have this instantly like-able taste in music. Metaphorically speaking, it’s the articulation of popular club with a sense of humor while at the same time paying homage to past musical genre’s – not only that, but they knit it all together in this electro-eclectic beanie – resting on your head and seeping into your ears trying infect the cerebrum with the disease of dancing.

Kid Sister is pretty much one of those little balls that rests on the top of this beanie to make it all look that much better, but instead of paying homage to the past, she pushes forward towards an electro-future… a little too much for my liking, but from an objective standpoint I can see where it’s coming from.
