sunny day for fallon

Jimmy genuinely looks like a fan of Sunny Day Real Estate which is super rad, but appropriate to the times the affection doesn’t appear to be too mutual. The dudes (original lineup) performed “Seven” to a tee and now more respected than ever (until Pete Wentz starts gushing on how they inspired Fall Out Boy) are hitting the road again. Peep the vid above and download one of my favorite tunes ever below. I love Sub Pop, but guys, c’mon… you just began to tip taste into the anus of Nirvana once more, lets just let the original pressings of Diary sell themselves out this time around. Think economical!

Sunny Day Real Estate – In Circles

ps. anyone up for google bombing jimmy fallon? power to the people!

edit: apparently it’ll illegal to watch jimmy fallon clips on youtube- but only in america. wow. sorry, the video above will never work for as long as we remain this fucking patriotic. the terrorists have won.

tune of the night

“Only he who can view his own past as an abortion sprung from compulsion and need can use it to full advantage in the present. For what one has lived is at best comparable to a beautiful statue which has had all its limbs knocked off in transit, and now yields nothing but the precious block out of which the image of one’s future must be hewn.”
-Walter Benjamin

The Robot Ate Me – Jesus and Hitler

if the whole world is shakin’

“The four horsemen don’t cause the apocalypse. After all they’ve been riding for centuries, hanging over our heads. They merely symbolize what life on earth is already like. They show us why we need an apocalypse.” - Alan Moore, Promethea

What with all the hubbub about tsunamis and earthquakes recently, I find my mind longing for the days when the world was just a Pangaean super-continent, ya know?

It’s during these trying times that I turn to the effluent chirpings of Pangea, whose refreshingly idealistic indie pop washes all my worries away. Props to Griznar Music Collective, their San Fernando Valley based record label – they really do sound like “a desert fire near a rosebush the morning after you discovered you’re still alive…”

no reason

I just really had to get that damn eye ball off the first post. It probably scared some people away… There’s no other reason for this weird mix of tunes…

Bjork – Nattura (Switch Remix)

Deerhunter – Hazel St.

Electric President – Insomnia

EDIT – In case you cared – US relaxes grips on the internet

tune of the night

“some things last lifetimes, some things are ephemeral
your face on my mind has been engraved into every nugget of brain cell.

some things last a long time, some things are soon done
your taste on my tongue has been injected into each one of its taste buds.”

-Noah23, “Faded”

Perfume Genius – Mr Petersen

sometimes you just gotta

To be honest I’ve really been feeling some tracks on the KiD CuDi album, but for months I’ve disliked the dude’s flows so I’m not quite ready to embrace my feelings. Ratatat and Common, why do you make my life so difficult! In place of “Make Her Say” or “Pursuit of Happiness,” here’s the jam for you to rawk out to. Video above, just because it might be as awesome as seeing Animal Collective live. Uh, don’t peep it if you have a weak stomach, are easily offended or are a die-hard feminist. We’re all educated on the male gaze and global objectification of the female body – this is study material.

Nelly – Tip Drill

comforting a nocturnal clock…

This review is a bit different, my camera ran out of batteries half way through the 10 hour bananza so I have very few pictures, most of these are landscapes, people, and the earlier DJs that have been lost to my memory (the long haired DJ and the black and white picture is Treasure Fingures and TC, respectively). I will remember to bring my spare battery next time, sorry….

Comfort is never fully acknowledged yet comfort should be something attached to one’s life, a silent motor working in the background, quietly purring and clicking towards making life a little better.

When a person has never defined what truly makes their life comfortable, it’s like a cigarette burn on the carpet; it’s always there, staring you in the face, quietly laughing at the fact that you’d have to replace the whole damn room to get rid of the single flaw. You can’t just go out and replace a life if it’s lacking in comfort.

If the person does not have an idea of what is comfortable to their lifestyle, well then their lifestyle will not be comfortable to other people. This creates a focus of negative energy coming from one person’s life, sort of like a power plant using more power than it produces – a void stretched to infinity by blatant negativism and the unquenchable thirst that resides with egotism.

Something that I feel brought down the vibe at this years Nocturnal ’09 was the mass migration of uncomfortable people to the NOS Fairgrounds.

in memories of better days, beau velasco

R.I.P. my dear brother, friend and band mate Beau Velasco. We are all so devestated that I will keep this short. We love you and you will be missed. You affected us all so much in the most positive ways. Our lives would not be as is if not for you. We love you. For all those who wish to pay their respects we will let the details known soon.
-Johnny Siera, via TheDeathSet’s fbook

“beau was the definition of a solid guy, i don’t know what to say beyond that. he was just a really great guy and its real shame what happened.”
-Dan Deacon

FUCK. Beau, although you will be missed you will never be forgotten. The scars that we bear and our memories collectively accumulated are far too great to go untold. For those who are unfamiliar with Beau by name, he was a founding power animal of TheDeathSet. Rock until you’re a legend.

TheDeathSet – Moving Forward

less bear, more hair

I couldn’t tell you how long I’ve been listening to Illinois troubadour Redbear.  Or even how I heard about him in the first place.  All I know is the depth of my love for this man and how I am astounded that, well, pretty much nobody in the LA area even recognizes his name.  So today I decided that that needs to change.  I mean, anyone who can do Pan Flute Beatboxing deserves a metaphorical pat on the back.  Here’s to you, Patrick.

Redbear. – Don’t Haunt Me Yet
Redbear. – All My Dead Friends

melting hearts and moving dance floors

Explode Into Colors is a Portland Oregon trio comprised of three brilliantly shining woman that sew brilliantly shining swells of dance floor push.  I recently stood stage-side center for an EIC Holocene show in Portland.  Mid-set I looked back to see a room completely packed with boys and girls in love, in motion catching the holy ghost–many with face full of smile.  Claudia Meza and Lisa Schoenberg (baritone guitar/vocals and drummer for EIC) graciously took the time to answer a few questions.

a silent song

Glass Ghost’s video for “Like A Diamond” pulls off something that not too many videos do nowadays, it demonstrates complementary intertextuality rather than practicing tangents and other forms of contemporary ADD. Arranged with awesome 80’s PSA-esque footage the empty space within the video parallels so well with the tune itself. Check it out.

“Like A Diamond” is on GG’s forthcoming debut LP, Idol Omen, via Western Vinyl. Mike and Eliot are currently on tour, peep the dates here.
