So we may not be the beat generation in context of Kerouac and Burroughs, but that still doesn’t mean we’re not the beat generation. Archived sounds mutilated, placing emphasis on spontaneous creativity, and the interaction of the body with projected sounds are only a few points of such a larger portrait taking place anywhere you flee to in today’s world. In America you’ll run into WEDIDIT, Dublab, Ghostly International, anticon. and an inconceivable amount of other collectives while finding strikingly similar evidence across the rest of our global community. Back in the day when Mad Decent first went online, Diplo did a fantastic job of covering a global scene – not to say he doesn’t now but he’s come across some well-deserved distractions over the years. Here’s a taste of what’s going on in the world of beats because from what it seems, you’re either in it or oblivious to it.
Like many of the posts on this site, I’d like to emphasize downloading these tracks now as their appearance on the internet as a whole is anywhere from unique to few and far-between. Give props to the homies that still make music for their friends.

Shlomo (formerly Henry From Outer Space) has been hitting home runs with the WEDIDIT collective ever since we caught onto their niche of Los Angeles x Cal Arts x San Francisco sounds. Shlomo comes in as an organic virus, spreading from the sky downward; an acid rain infestation. Fluid transitions and creeping ideas keep Henry’s work enticing and the time between releases a bit anxious, feel free to download his Shlomoshun EP for free right here.

The Ancient Astronauts are Kabanjak and Dogu from Cologne, Germany and although spanning a distance that is halfway across the globe recall hiphop beats such as RJD2 or DJ Shadow with a bit more air to swallow. Pick up their fantastic debut We Are the Answer here.
Ancient Astronauts – I Came Running

With a name like this and beats like that we all could see Gaslamp Killer’s My Troubled Mind, but what was kept behind the curtain was just how sick that mind really was. Made for the record flip and following a unique persona on each side, MTM EP rides us from Holy Mountain to the Outer Limits. Shuffling through underground parties across Southern California, the motherfucking Gaslamp Killer is on the loose…lock your fucking doors and shut your windows to humor him.

To avoid this post consuming your day I’m going to end it here with The Dene Road. Taking a daily routine and appropriating actions and sounds for such an activity, The Dene Road EP settles as the story of a gentle brush against the arm and the way which touch has interacted with the arm. There is speech and dialogue of tracks of layers of ideas of moments. Wrong question: How do we react? Correct Question: What does reaction affect? Answer:
The Dene Road – Am Off
The Dene Road – And She Was Touched
and here is some GROUNDISLAVA for your enjoyment:
