Outside of the ever-loved Daedelus, Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer, etc Los Angeles has an inspiring collective of young beat-makers that call themselves the WEDIDIT Collective. If you weren’t around, we’ve blogged on ‘em before and have even had Shlomo play a FMLY party back when he was going by Henry From Outer Space. Our homie Jasper (alias: GROUNDISLAVA) simultaneously just dropped two EPs via WEDIDIT and I’ve got nothing to say other than he seriously outdid himself on all levels. College For Dogs finds Jasper arranging glitch’d out hiphop beats pouring through rough neon caverns (hence: “get on my water level”) while Babygames gets into some serious dancefloor electronic tunes. The beauty in these releases are not only the promise which they hold, but the essence that they have been born into. These sounds are new, these beats are the first of their kind and along with the Los Angeles beat scene you’re either in it or you just don’t get it.
