Those who look too closely at their favorite band’s MySpace top friends are already well aware of the Ratatat x Despot chemistry, but in the famous words of the 90s, “SHOW ME THE MONEY!”
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you Ratatat for matching if not topping my favorite hip hop hits of this year (Paper Route Gangstaz & Hollywood Holt w/ Mikey Rocks) with one of your phattest beats…and it didn’t even take gun shots or wildcats to rise high (if you catch my drift)! Look out for the track on the forthcoming Def Jux Presents 4 compilation and keep an eye out for new Kid Cudi tracks. Why? Because Ratatat has that shit on lock.
Now for the track… Queens rapper Despot delivers some of his quickest and most inspired verses complemented by a beat that plays bread like butter. Reflecting the natural beauty of the sea swallowing a ship and all of its sea men – don’t get the wrong idea – these four minutes sweeter than any I’ve had in some time, now you can get the wrong idea, serve as an incredible introduction for Despot and likewise Ratatat. Just another example of hip hop coming down under to chill with our ears, holla to Power 106!
Despot – Look Alive (produced by Ratatat)
BNS (my fav low-key hip hop tracks this year)
Paper Route Gangstaz – Keyshia Cole
