handle your time

It has taken snail mail, multiple recommendations and a few reminders but I have finally laid down and soaked in Helado Negro’s Awe Owe (out 8/4 on Asthmatic Kitty). What I’ve found rooted in these expressions is a valuable documentation of how Roberto Carlos Lange understands sound and its incorporation into forming intended music. The character of “Dos Sueños” forms waves which remain at a constant bar, as the sounds of a guitar fade under the horizon a subtle and almost lullaby vocal melody rises in acknowledgment of where to keep focus. The creation of moments rather than stretches of experience is a quick way to sum up the sounds of Awe Owe, but where moments rest there is a co-existence of form, structure and authenticity. Words eloquently taken from MySpace, “These ‘albums’ are extensions of the after thought of what these songs do together as a group. The albums are based on themes that carry weight and maybe criticize an idea as an observation.” Beautifully and originally crafted, I recommend the approach of discovering this album rather than deliberately seeking it out. As with word-of-mouth records, it will wash through your ears when appropriate.

Pre-order here and peep the stunning video for “Dahum,” aka my rainy day jam, above.

here are two which experience time, and huge thanks to helado negro and pitch perfect for allowing fmly this exclusive stream…
Helado Negro – Dos Sueños
Helado Negro – Time Aparts
and if you find your way to the album, may i highly recommend “awe” and “santero,” just a couple tastes of the summer flavor.
