Crystal Antlers – Vexation
There’s something about a love affair that’s beyond comprehension. A true love shows itself in such a blinding epiphany that it’s impossible to deny, yet equally difficult to define. The love can be in the form of emotional, physical, metaphorical, or a combination of the three.
After witnessing the love affair between three men and their instruments, my ears are still ringing with the unobstructed clarity that rattled through their canals; clarity in knowing, clarity in understanding, clarity in the form of virtuosity which can only be obtained when one person truly loves.
The love that emanated between J Mascis with his guitar, Lou Barlow with his bass, and Murph with his drums told a story which ran deep enough to loose even Henry Rollins (Whom attended and rocked out harder than the young kids crowd surfing). It was a story of sorrow, repulsion, and unanswered questions, caught between walls of guitars and finding solace in the comfort of adoring fans.
I had gotten to the Troubadour just as the opening band had gotten on, the band being Long Beach’s Crystal Antlers – I hadn’t inspected the bill besides knowing Dino Jr. so this caught me by surprise and added to the love. Safe to say the Antlers killed it, I was so enthralled by both acts that I myself didn’t get too many good pictures, thank god I met someone who did.
More Photos after the break…
The rest of these I took
