The Field – From Here We Go Sublime
The Field and The Juan Maclean at the Avalon- 6/5/09
Mmmm…I’ve been waiting to catch the Field since last Coachella’s shenanigans, and that time finally came! Hell, I love me a show that starts at 11:45, less traffic, more time to get a little drunk, pretty much just overall more fun; even if I did have a final the next day (Blame the Chemistry department). Regardless of impending final (which has sense passed, thanks for asking), I made my way to the Avalon last night to catch (my headliner), the Field, and the cherry on top, the Juan MacLean.
The night started off with some hard house and eclectic beats of the resident DJ, warming the crowd and the room. I have never been to the Avalon before, and I have nothing but good things to say about the lighting, the sound, and the room arrangement (Plus the entire upper balcony was empty so it forced everyone to the floor).
Then they lifted the curtain and the Field decided to induce a 45 minute long orgasm of sound, with a little queef of sound after the first song as the only flaw. I wasn’t sure how the Field’s material was going to translate live, but if you could imagine “From Here we go Sublime” at a much higher volume, pumped full of ecstasy, and backed by a live band, it would be like what you’re imagining right now, times ten. I don’t even know how to categorize the damn show, it was close to trance, but the feel from it was far superior than the normal trance that comes from big name DJ’s. Pictures don’t translate well, but next time the guy comes around I implore you to go to the show.
The guy below this is named Ben, he gave me a free T-shirt, so I hooked him up with a picture and a post. Thanks Ben!
Then it was time for the funk-a-soul-a-delic song of the Juan MacLean. They seemed to want to make everyone deaf and decided to turn up the volume even higher for the Juan. (Thank god the bathroom had free earplugs and candy!) But since it was getting near 2 a.m and I had to drive back up to Santa Barbara, I decided to call it quits, ’tis a shame. Until next time…
